Double Wins for Gulley at Cougar Indoor Meet

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Eleven facility records were set when Washington State University hosted track and field squads from California Berkeley, Cal State Northridge, and Idaho at the Cougar Indoor Track & Field Meet, held Friday and Saturday, at the WSU Indoor Practice Facility.
WSU men rewrote two of the seven men's records as Paul Nicoletti (junior, Snohomish, Wash.) won the pole vault (5.05m/16-6 3/4), and Dione Cason (redshirt sophomore, Long Beach, Calif.) won the 400m dash (48.91). Three other facility records were broken by California men: Darren Woods won the 200m (21.85), and then ran the lead leg as the Golden Bears won the 4x400m relay (3:17.09) and Teak Wilburn won the high jump with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying 2.20m/7-2 1/2. Northridge's Jason Romero won the long jump (7.40m/24-3 1/2) and Rashaad Dixon won the triple jump (15.32m/50-3 1/2) rewrote the other two IPF records.
In the women's events' records, WSU's Angelita Green (senior, Long Beach, Calif.) won the 800m (2:13.05) and then anchored the winning WSU 4x400m relay team of Brandi Probasco-Canda (freshman, Portland, Ore.), Diana Pickler (sophomore, Sachse, Texas), and Nicole Hatcher (sophomore, Kennewick) to a time of 3:52.64. Cal State Northridge's Toni Smith won the triple jump (12.31m/40-4 3/4) and Laura Sauao won the shot put (15.05m/49-4 1/2) to get into the record book.
WSU's Tamara Gulley (senior, San Jose, Calif.) won the 60m dash with a PR time of 7.60 and the 60m hurdles (8.66). Probasco-Canda won the 400m dash with a PR of 57.23, and in the field events, Karla McGee (senior, Lethbridge, Alb., Canada) won the pole vault (3.80m/12-5 1/2) on fewer missed attempts over Cal' Danielle Navarre and WSU's Tamara Diles, and in the triple jump, Blessing Ufodiama (senior, Long Beach, Calif.) leaped 5.62m/18-5 1/4 for the win.
Also notable was Cal's Amin Nikfar's NCAA PQ throw of 17.96m/58-11 1/4 to win the men's shot put.
The Cougars men's and women's team travel to the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational Meet at Lincoln, Nebraska, for competition next Saturday, Feb. 7.
