Cougars Place Third and Seventh in Weight Throws

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Idaho senior Jen Broncheau won the women's 20-pound weight throw and Matthew Wauters, competing unattached, won the men's 35-pound weight throw Friday night at the WSU Open Indoor Track & Field Meet.
Broncheau's best throw was 51-feet, 4 1/4 inches (15.65m) with teammate Shanna Lytle second with a toss of 49-2 1/4 (14.99m). WSU freshman Jessica Zita took third place with a best throw of 46-6 (14.17m).
In the men's weight throw, Wauters had the best throw 60-1 1/4 (18.32m) for first place. WSU's Keith Tyler, a redshirt freshman, placed seventh with a best of 46-7 1/4 (14.20m). George Mathews, a masters division thrower from the Iron Wood Throwers Club threw 63-11 1/2 (19.49m).
The WSU Open continues Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the remaining field and all the running events. Admission to the Indoor Track Facility is $5 per person.
