Cougars at NCAA Last Chance Meet

Indoor track and field season coming to a close.

PAC-10 SCORER

WSU CAREER. JUNIOR (2011-12): Indoor - High jumped season-best of 2.11m/6-11i twice during season...at MPSF Championships tied for 13th in high jump (2.02m/6-7 1/2i)...Outdoor - Cleared a height of 2.06m/6-9 four times during season including at Pac-12 Championships to tie at 14th place.

SOPHOMORE (2010-11): Indoor - Competed despite having to return to Vancouver, B.C. area every few weeks for chemotherapy and blood tests...high jumped 1.97m/6-5 1/2i at Husky Classic (2/12/11, Seattle)...Outdoor - Gaining strength weekly...leaped 2.11m/6-11 at Pac-10 Championships for sixth place...did not clear a bar at NCAA West Prelims in Eugene...at the Canadian Track & Field Championships finished ninth with a clearance at 1.98m/6-6 (Calgary).

(2009-10): Withdrew from school and spent the year undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia at home...returned to WSU for summer school, 2010, while still undergoing chemotherapy through fall semester.

FRESHMAN (2008-09): Indoor - Cleared high jump PR and NCAA Provisional Qualifying height of 2.15m/7-0 1/2 at Husky Classic (2/14/09, Seattle)...placed third (2.10m/6-10 3/4i) at Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships...Outdoor - Reached NCAA Regional Qualifying mark of 2.10/6-10 3/4 at Vandal Jamboree...was diagnosed with leukemia just prior to Pac-10 Championships.

HIGH SCHOOL CAREER. Graduated from Terry Fox Secondary School in 2007....spent the 2007-08 year working and training for Canada's World Junior Team trials as a member of the Coquitlam Cheetahs Club team with coach Per Anderson...during early high jumping career was British Columbia 2004 Midget champion and Midget national Canadian champion...set B.C. Summer Games Midget record-holder with leap of 1.86m/6-5...was the 2006 B.C. and Royal Canadian Juvenile high jump champion...senior year was B.C. high school champion after clearing 2.05m/6-8 3/4...took fifth place at Canadian Senior Championships...disappointing third place finish in Canadian Junior National meet...was 2007 B.C. Junior champion with his PR height of 2.06m/6-9...number one-ranked junior male high jumper in British Columbia...cleared lifetime-best 2.14m/7-0 1/4 in winning the 2008 Canadian Junior high jump gold medal in Abbotsford, B.C....competed at the 2008 World Junior Championships in Poland but did not clear a bar.

PERSONAL. Born in February 1989, in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada...mother Diana Swartz is a care giver...older sister Lisa and older brother Nathan...majoring in movement studies.
