WSU Defeats UCLA and Tennessee Men's Teams

Cougars defeat UCLA and Tennessee men's teams.

WSU CAREER. SOPHOMORE (2010-11): Indoor - Reached PR high jump of 1.74m/5-8 1/2i at WSU Open II (2/19/11, Pullman)...finished tied for sixth place at MPSF Championships after clearing bar at 1.69m/5-6 1/2i...Outdoor - Soared to PR height of 1.80m/5-10 3/4 at Jim Click Shootout (4/2/11, Tucson) - mark is eighth-best in WSU all-time records...finished sixth in high jump at Pac-10 Championships with clearance at 1.74m/5-8 1/2...tied for 24th at NCAA West Prelims with high jump of 1.65m/5-5...named Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention.

FRESHMAN (2009-10): Indoor - Cleared high jump bar at 1.69m/5-6 1/2i at both Texas A&M Challenge (1/30/10, College Station) and at Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships to tie at 11th place (2/27/10, Seattle)...Outdoor - Season-best leap was 1.70m/5-7 at Mt. SAC Relays...finished 10th at Pac-10 Championships (1.64m/5-4 1/2).

HIGH SCHOOL CAREER. Earned seven varsity letters at Mountain View High...four as a sprint swimmer for coach Dave Shoup...three letters as a pole vaulter and high jumper for coach Bob Procive...sophomore season finished fourth in high jump at state 4A championships with a clearance at 5-4...junior year won district high jump title with jump of 5-6...was runner-up at state 4A meet on misses after clearing 5-8...senior season repeated as district champ (5-6)...won state 4A high jump title after clearing 5-10.

PERSONAL. Born in May 1991 in Grangeville, Idaho...father Patrick Rice is a middle school teacher...mother Margaret Schell is an activities coordinator...younger sister Sadie...majoring in fine arts at WSU.
