A Message From Bill Moos About The MyPlaybook Program
First, let me say that I am so appreciative to be at my alma mater and to be serving as your Director of Athletics. In this very important leadership role, I am truly committed to your well-being. My primary goal will be to provide you and your teammates the many resources it will take for you to achieve a healthy life-balance as a Cougar student-athlete, and for your team to compete successfully in the PAC 12 Conference and nationally. I encourage you to continue working hard and smart to achieve your academic, personal, and athletic goals.
As you prepare for continued growth in your intercollegiate career at Washington State University, I ask that you consider what it means to be a WSU student-athlete on the field, court, course, track, in the pool, and on the river, as well as in the larger community. At Washington State University, students are expected to make conscious choices that do not diminish the academic or social success or personal safety of themselves or others.
One healthy life choice of great significance for college students is the role of alcohol, drugs, and other substances in their lives. It is a myth that unhealthy drinking is the norm on college campuses the majority of college students drink moderately or not at all. Yet most problems on college campuses, whether academic or social, are related to alcohol and drug misuse. And, unfortunately illegal use of street drugs and prescription drugs continues to rise nationally across college campuses.
To prepare student-athletes to make wise personal choices concerning substance use and to safeguard the well-being of other students, Washington State Athletics is requiring all student-athletes to complete MyPlaybook, a comprehensive, online program designed to prevent alcohol and other drug-related harm. MyPlaybook is an important component of our efforts to create a culture of drug-free teams at Washington State University. MyPlaybook utilizes the latest research on college student-athlete substance use. This course is designed to help student-athletes explore the role of drugs and other substances in the collegiate experience and better understand the importance of making responsible choices. You will learn how to avoid serious consequences, handle substance use-related emergencies, and help others who struggle with misuse. The course consists of six lessons that each take approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete. If you are not able to complete a lesson in one sitting, you may close the browser after completing a lesson and return later; any responses you have entered will be saved.
We are confident that completing this course will help you have a healthy WSU experience, and prepare you to make a difference athletically, as well as on our campus, regarding this very important issue.
Thank you for your participation and leadership in our drug free team initiative. Be a Coug, Be Drug Free...Go Cougs!
Sincerely,
Bill Moos
Director of Athletics
