Men's Golf Set To Host The Itani Quality Homes Collegiate

The Cougs open their fall tournament schedule at home Sept. 11.

THIS WEEK: The WSU men's golf team is set to host its ninth consecutive tournament to kick off the 2017-18 season. The Itani Quality Homes Collegiate will take place at WSU's Palouse Ridge Golf Club, September 11-12.  .
 
THE COURSE: WSU's Palouse Ridge Golf Club is located on campus and was the host for the 2015 Men's Pac-12 Golf Championships…the 7,308-yard track will play at par 71...teams will play 36 holes Monday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m…the tournament concludes Tuesday with 18 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m…the course, which opened in Aug. 2008, was named to Golfweek's Top College Courses list in 2014 and 2015.
 
THE TOURNAMENT: This year marks the tournament's ninth occurrence in Pullman, but the sixth year that Itani Quality Homes has sponsored…Washington State has won the title every year except for 2011 and 2014…in 2009, Kevin Tucker tied for individual honors…Hank Frame placed in the top 25 all four years of his career (2009-12) and captured the tournament title as a senior in 2012…in 2013, senior Blake Snyder captured the individual title…in 2014, senior Sang Lee earned his first career individual title…Cougars set a school record for 54-holes in 2010 with an 827 (-37)…WSU's third-round score of 278 (-10) in 2012 is the best third round mark in tournament history.
 
THE FIELD: Joining WSU in the 11-team field will be British Columbia, Cal State Fullerton, Boise State, Cal Baptist, Long Beach State, Sacramento State, Seattle, Idaho, South Dakota, and Texas Rio Grande Valley.
 
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougars will be seniors Derek Bayley and Brian Mogg, juniors AJ Armstrong and Grant Cole, and sophomore Daniel Kolar...the rest of the WSU roster will compete as individuals.
 
LAST TIME AT THE ITANI QUALITY HOMES COLLEGIATE: The Cougars finished in first with a collective three round score of 842 (-10)...WSU finished 19 strokes ahead of second place Utah, which closed out the tournament with an 861 (+9) three round score...Coug senior Nick Mandell took home the individual first place title, finishing with a three round score of 210 (-3)...then-junior Derek Bayley finished one stroke behind Mandell with a score of 211 (-2), tying for second place with Idaho's Ethan Atherstone.
 
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: WSU finished in 10th place at the Pac-12 Championships in Boulder, Colorado, ahead of Oregon State and Utah...the championships took place April 28-30 at the Boulder Country Club...WSU closed out the tournament with a three round score of 1113 (+63) while thenfFreshman Daniel Kolar and then-junior Brian Mogg tied for 26th place, both with a score of 219 (+9)...graduated senior Nick Mandell had the best round for the Cougars, shooting two under in the final round and tying for 40th with a three round score of 223 (+13).
 
COACHING STAFF: The men's golf team is led by second-year head coach Dustin White, a WSU alum who golfed for the Cougars from 1999-2003…assisting White is Chris Gilbert, a second-year assistant coach with four years of collegiate and three years professional golfing experience.
