COLFAX, Wash. – The Washington State men's cross country team, ranked No.11 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason poll, and the WSU women's team ran course records at the WSU Alumni Meet Sept. 1, at the Colfax Golf Club, in Colfax, Wash.  
 
The WSU men's team starting off the season strong led by junior Nathan Wadhwani, setting a course record of 17 minutes 30.06 seconds. Other top finishes from WSU men's include 2016 All-American Michael Williams (17:55.7) finishing third, Chandler Teigen (17:56.4), Paul Ryan (17:56.5), Sam Levora (18:00.3), and Justin Janke (18:02.3).
 
The WSU women's team led by senior Vallery Korir, setting a course record of 13:14.8, in her first season at WSU after transferring in January 2017. Other top finishes from the Cougs include Devon Bortfeld (13:24.7), Josie Brown (14:10.7), Kiyena Beatty (14:15.4) setting the freshman women's course record, Marie Gaudin (14:24.7), and Desi Stinger (14:25.6).
 
This course is the site of the 2019 NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships and the 2015 Pac-12 Cross Country Championships.
 
Cougar cross country's next meet is the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational Sept. 29. The Oregon XC Preview scheduled for Sept. 7, was cancelled due to poor air quality. Results will be posted at wsucougars.com, when available.
