July 25, 2017 | Rowing
The four signees bring the class to 12 for this coming season.
PULLMAN, Wash. – Four more prospective student-athletes have committed or signed National Letters of Intent to row for Washington State University beginning next season, head coach Jane LaRiviere announced, Wednesday.
"We are very excited about the additions of Jessica, Jasmine, Chloe, and Megan to the Cougar Rowing Family come August," LaRiviere said. "These young women's different backgrounds and experiences will positively contribute to our team, and they cap off the largest recruiting class in our program's history. Â We cannot wait to have them on campus."
Jessica Norris (Havelock North, New Zealand) comes to Pullman with extensive and successful sculling experience, having rowed with Woodford House and Hawkes Bay Rowing Club. She is a two-time gold medalist at the New Zealand National Rowing Championships in both the club quadruple sculls and the club single sculls. Â She is also a three-time A final competitor at the Maadi Cup, New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship, in both the single and double sculls events, and has five career gold medals from the New Zealand North Island Club Championships. Norris plans to study Sport Management at WSU.
Jasmine Brake (Auckland, New Zealand) comes to Washington State after a stellar high school career, having rowed for Glendowie College and St. Peter's School. A great boat mover in both sweep and sculling, Brake has eight (four gold and four silver) Maadi Cup New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship medals to her name in the double and quadruple sculls, as well as eights. Â She also finished fourth in the U18 eight at the 2016 Maadi Cup. Â While racing for the Cambridge Rowing Club and the West End Rowing Club, Brake compiled four silver medals in various events at the New Zealand National Rowing Championships. Â She plans to study psychology at WSU.Â
Chloe White (North Saanich, British Columbia) will join the Cougars from Saint Michaels University School, a boarding school in British Columbia, and will serve as a coxswain. A highlight of her junior coxswain career was winning the junior women's 8+ at the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games. Â As a four-year athlete, her ability to cox boats will make an immediate impact on the team. White plans to focus on pre-med studies at WSU.
Megan Kelly (Costa Mesa, Calif.) arrives on the Palouse from Southern California where she rowed for two years at the highly successful Newport Aquatic Center. She attended Mater Dei High School and will bring a wealth of skill and knowledge to the Cougar Rowing team. Â Her best race of the past season was second place at the Fault Line Faceoff in the Junior Women's 4x. Kelly plans to study Kinesiology at WSU.
These four will join eight that signed NLIs and/or committed in the early signing period in the fall.
