BYDGOSZCZ, Poland -- A trio Washington State newcomers and a rising sophomore competed at the 11th European Athletics (Track & Field) Championships last week at Zawisza Stadium in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
Atina Kamasi, from Novi Sad, Serbia, finished seventh in the women's javelin with a throw of 161-feet 11 inches (49.37m). Kamasi, a rising sophomore at WSU, had a personal record best throw this spring of 171-8 (52.32m) which is the school Freshman Record and is third-best in Cougar women all-time records.
Incoming WSU freshmen Zorana Grujic and her twin sister Jelena Grujic, also from Novi Sad, Serbia, also competed. Zorana Grujic was 21st in the women's 800m with a time of 2 minutes 9.86 seconds, above her PR time of 2:06.30 for this distance. Jelena Grujic was 24th in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.86. Her PR time in the intermediate hurdles is 59.79 seconds.
Newcomer Martha Traoré, from Copenhagen, Denmark, finished seventh in the women's long jump with a leap of 20-8 1/2 (6.31m). Traoré will be a graduate student at WSU with two years of eligibility remaining. Her lifetime-best long jump is 21-2 (6.45m).
