EUGENE, Ore. -- Washington State's
Alissa Brooks-Johnson, a two-time Pac-12 champion, is in 12th place after the first four events of the heptathlon Friday at the NCAA DI Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Brooks-Johnson, a redshirt junior from Doty, Wash., completed the day with a score of 3,251 points, 492 points behind the first-day leader, Georgia's Kendell Williams' 3,743 points, and only 59 points behind the last scoring position of eighth place. Twenty women completed the first day of the heptathlon.

The first three heptathlon events were contested during the afternoon's cool 57-degree temperature and driving rain. Brooks-Johnson ran the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.24 seconds, high jumped 5-feet 4 1/4 inches (1.63m), and threw the shot put a distance of 38-2 3/4 (11.65m). Three hours later, still contending with the cool temperatures but no rain, Brooks-Johnson won the easily won the first heat of the 200m a time of 24.89 seconds which was the fifth-fastest time of the day.

Brooks-Johnson, coming off a medical redshirt season in 2016, won the 2015 Pac-12 heptathlon title with a lifetime-best total of 5,803 points, which is fourth-best in WSU's all-time records. She scored 5,638 points in winning the 2017 Pac-12 title. She earned honorable mention All-America accolades with her 18th-place finish in the heptathlon and 23rd-place finish in the 400m hurdles at the 2015 NCAA Championships.

Saturday's heptathlon events begin at 11:30 a.m. with the long jump followed by the javelin at 12:45 p.m. and the 800 meters run scheduled for 5:13 p.m. The NCAA Championships can be viewed online on ESPN3 beginning at 11:30 a.m. and on ESPN starting at 3:30 p.m.
