CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Washington State University women's rowing redshirt senior
Ieva Adomaviciute has been named Division I Pocock First Team All-America by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA), the organization announced Tuesday.
Adomaviciute (Kaunas, Lithuania) finished her fourth and final season with the Cougars this year, having rowed with the varsity eight crew the majority of her career. She redshirted last season as she took a year off to train with the Lithuanian national team. All four years that Adomaviciute has been on the team, the Cougars have advanced to the NCAA Rowing Championships.
As a freshman in 2013, Adomaviciute was instrumental in getting WSU back to the NCAA Championships after a one-year drought, as she helped lead the varsity eight and the team to 14th-place finishes. The following season Adomaviciute rowed with the varsity four, finishing 13th, while the team placed 14th at NCAAs. The following season, 2015, the then-junior guided WSU to its second-best team finish in school history as the Cougars placed eighth and Adomaviciute's varsity eight crew finished ninth. As a redshirt senior in 2017, Adomaviciute led the varsity eight crew to a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Championships as WSU placed 14th as a team in May.
This marks the second time that Adomaviciute has earned CRCA First Team All-America honors, as she also picked them up as a freshman in 2013. She was also named the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year that season, on top of her CRCA First Team All-Region accolades. This season, Adomaviciute was named to the All-Pac-12 team, as well as a CRCA All-Region honoree.
Adomaviciute becomes the second Cougar to be named to the Pocock All-America First Team, joined by
Jordan Watson last season and in 2015. She's the fifth Cougar to receive the first team award for the seventh time, as she is joined by; Corinna Sharick (2011), Irena Neffeova (2008), Sarah Waterfield (2006) and Watson (2015, 2016).
Adomaviciute was named to the CRCA Region 5 First Team in May, which made her eligible to receive All-America Accolades.
In order to earn the honors, a student-athlete must have competed in 75 percent of the spring races and been nominated by her institution. The selections are based on the strength of finish of the institution's varsity eight within the country, coaches' comments and the student-athlete's 2k erg score.
