Schoenlein Selected to U.S. Collegiate National Volleyball Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Washington State's Casey Schoenlein is one of 31 announced players who will train and compete as part of the U.S. Collegiate National Team-Minneapolis (CNT-Minneapolis) program, USA Volleyball announced Monday. Five spots remain open for the CNT-Minneapolis program pending final outcome of the U.S. Women's Junior National Team's results at the Women's U20 Pan American Cup held in early May.

Earlier this year USA Volleyball WSU's McKenna Woodford was named to the CNT-Thailand team, and Taylor Mims was selected for the CNT-Europe team. Athletes in the three CNT programs were selected through the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts held March 3-5 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The CNT-Minneapolis squad is part of USA Volleyball's High Performance pipeline and is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women's National Team. The CNT-Minneapolis team will train June 22-26, at the University of Minnesota. Afterward, the athletes will be assigned to one of three 12-member teams and compete in a round-robin format at the Minneapolis Convention Center June 27-30. The matches are being held in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships under the same roof.

Schoenlein (shane-line) is a 6-5 outside hitter from Bellevue, Wash., who was a 2016 All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention Team member and a Pac-12 All-Academic First Team member; one of only two players in 2016 to be named to both Pac-12 teams. In 2016 she had 1.77 kills per set and 2.30 points per set, both fourth-best on team, and 0.94 blocks per set, third-best on the team, and hit .218 in conference matches. In career statistics, Schoenlein has 26 solo blocks, tied at 31st in WSU all-time records, 165 block assists, also 31st-best, and 191 total blocks, tied for 30th-best all-time. Schoenlein is a journalism and media production major. She writes a blog for the WSUCougars.com website and is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic First Team member. Schoenlein is one of only three players in the Pac-12 to earn back-to-back first team academic honors in 2015 and 2016 and one of only three players in WSU volleyball history to each back-to-back Pac-12 All-Academic First Team honors.

Cougar players Casey Schoenlein and McKenna Woodford and Head Coach Jen Greeny were on the 2016 CNT-Europe team that became the first U.S. Collegiate team to win the Global Challenge Tournament in Pula, Croatia, in its 12-year history.

The CNT-Minneapolis squad will have Rod Wilde of Madison Elite, NC State University Assistant Coach Nicki Holmes and West Hills College Head Coach Jeff Wanderer as the program managers and administrators. The head coaches for the three teams will be UCF Head Coach Todd Dagenais, East Tennessee State University Head Coach Lindsey Devine and Trinity Western University (Canada) Assistant Coach Dennis Janzen. Assistant coaches for the CNT-Minneapolis program are Grand Canyon University Assistant Coach Jay Van Vark, University of Kentucky Assistant Coach Lindsey Gray-Walton and University of San Diego Assistant Coach Marie Zidek.
