SPOKANE, Wash. -- Washington State women won six events and the Cougar men won five events at the Spokane Community College's WAR X track and field meet Saturday at Spokane Falls Track Complex.
One of the highlights of the day was the men's 4x400m relay squad of
Ja'Maun Charles,
CJ Allen,
Sam Brixey and
Matthew Swanson won with a time of 3 minutes 11.09 seconds. Earlier in the day, Charles won the 400m dash with a time of 48.76 seconds
Nick Johnson and
Christapherson Grant took first and second respectively in the 110m hurdles. Johnson's time was a PR of 14.48 with Grant running a time of 14.60.
Jake Callaghan won the shot put with a heave of 52-10 1/4 (16.11m).
Brock Eager led a one-two-four-five finish for WSU men in the hammer. Eager's mark was 208-feet 2 inches (63.46m) with
Travis Pickett's throw of 190-3 (58.00m) second place.
Amani Brown's fourth place finish was a PR mark of 180-10 (55.13m) while
Wyatt Meyring threw a distance of 165-10 (50.55m) for fifth.
In the men's high jump,
Keelan Halligan took second with a season-best6-6 3/4 (2.00m) with
Peyton Fredrickson third after clearing the same height.
Cole Smith was fourth and
Max English fifth after clearing the bar at 6-4 3/4 (1.95m).
Pole vaulters
Tucker Mjelde,
Anden Lewis and Troy Gringerich had a second through fourth finish respectively, with Mjelde clearing a PR height of 15-feet 7 inches (4.75m), Lewis getting over a season-best bar at 15-1 (4.60m) and Gingerich clearing 14-7 1/4 (4.45m).
Josh Schulz was the runner-up in the long jump with a PR leap of 21-5 1/2 (6.54m).
Tyler Jackson threw the discus a PR distance of 162-6 (49.52m) for second place.
On the women's side,
Jordyn Tucker won the 100m dash in a time of 12.23 with Tierney Sillilman second in a time of 12.48.
Lateah Holmes was one of three women to clear 5-5 (1.65m) in the high jump but won Saturday's event on fewer misses. Cougars went one-two-three in the pole vault with
Katelyn Frost and
Molly Scharmann both clearing 11-7 3/4 (3.55m), a season-best height for Frost who won the event on fewer misses.
Danielle Carnahan placed third with a mark of 11-1 3/4 (3.40m).
Lauren Newman won the long jump with a leap of 17-8 1/4 (5.39m).
Katie Wardsworth won the hammer with a heave of 170-7 (52.00m) with
Stacia Bell the runner-up with a PR throw of 159-0 (48.47m).
Kaitlin Krouse and
Chrisshnay Brown finished one-two in the discus with Krouse throwing 139-11 (42.66m) and Brown's mark 128-1 (39.05m).
The Cougars track and field teams will compete next week at the Mt. SAC/California Invitational Combined Events in Azusa, at the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, Calif., and at the Beach Invitational at Long Beach, Calif.
