PULLMAN, Wash. – No. 14 Washington State University rowing completed the home portion of its spring racing schedule, Saturday, on the Snake River at Wawawai Landing. The top-ranked Huskies swept all six races. Crews battled 7-10 m.p.h. quartering headwinds under clear skies.

"I think the individual efforts by all of our boats were there," said WSU head coach Jane LaRiviere. "We've got things to work on, but we were out-gunned. There's a really good reason that they are the No. 1 team in the country. We'll just get back to it on Monday and there's still a lot of speed out there. I am optimistic about getting a little faster for Pac-12s."

In the closest race of the day, the WSU varsity eight (coxswain-Jenna Mangiagli, Emily Morrow, Mihaela-Teodora Berindei, Ieva Adomaviciute, Lucie Weissova, Nicole Hare, Paige Danielson, Kristel Tohu, Isabella Watt) raced head-to-head with the No. 1 Huskies for the second time this year. UW crossed at 6:45.83. The Cougars followed at 6:56.97.

A race prior, the WSU second varsity eight (coxswain-Ellie Burg, Emily Thomson, Taija Thompson, Chloe Rogers, Ivy Elling Quaintance, Jenna Kennedy, Lori VerMurlen, Jessi Howe, Brittany Brooks) raced the 2,000-meter course at 7:27.04. Top-ranked UW finished at 7:03.49.

The Cougars' all-underclassman varsity four (coxswain-Mikaelyn Davis, Renee Kemp, Rosalina Torcivia, Kamila Ondrackova, Sue Yu) finished the day at 8:28.02, and the No. 1 Huskies crossed at 7:47.70.
In the third race of the day, the WSU third varsity eight (coxswain-Hannah Welzbacker, Grace Arnis, Jill Hannink, Mahal Johnson, Emily Vandegrift, Sara Brevick, Madeleine Bingham, Hunter Jones, Miranda Armstrong) completed the course at 7:52.12. The No. 1 Huskies raced to a 7:13.80 finish.

The second and first races of the day also went to the top-ranked Huskies. WSU's fourth varsity eight (coxswain-Paige Schoppe, Codi Swenson, Carmen Dittoe, Anna DeTray, Gabrielle Rector, Miranda Strickland, Sophia Rogers, linnea Davison, Madeline Soran) stroked to a 8:14.67 finish. In the day's opening race, the WSU fifth varsity eight (coxswain-Shannon MacKenzie, Hannah Mayes, Sarah Walkinshaw, Karlee Rayman, Alexis Winnett, Melissa Torres, Ella Cowan de Wolf, Grace Taylor, Rachael Christman) crossed at 8:27.26, behind the Huskies.

The Cougars will train next week, before traveling to the 2017 Pac-12 Championships, May 14 on Lake Natoma at Gold River, Calif.
