TUCSON, Ariz. –The Washington State women's golf team is tied for eighth with No. 21 California, in a field that features seven top-30 teams, after the first round of the Pac-12 Championships, Monday, at the Sewailo Golf Club.
WSU and California each shot 28-over on the day (316) and lead Oregon and Oregon State by one stroke (+29, 317). Tournament-leader and sixth-ranked UCLA leads WSU by 26 strokes (+2, 290) heading into the second round. No. 3 Stanford and No. 26 Colorado are tied for second, while No. 10 USC and No. 14 Arizona round out the top-five.
Leading the Cougars is freshman Marie Lund-Hansen, who is tied for 21st. The Denmark-native shot 4-over par (76) with two birdies in the first round. Five strokes separate Lund-Hansen from Lilia Vu and Bethany Wu of UCLA who are tied for first (-1, 71).
Juniors Alivia Brown and Bree Wanderscheid are both tied for 34th place through one round. The pair ended the day with a score of 79 (+7).Â
Highlighted by an eagle on the front nine, senior Cherokee Kim shot 10-over in the first round and sits in 49th place (82). Sophomore Madison Odiorne is tied for 53rd place (+12, 84).
