Women’s Golf Heads to Pac-12 Championships

The Cougars will travel to Tucson, Ariz., to close out the regular season.

THIS WEEK: The Washington State women's golf team will close out the regular season at the 2017 Pac-12 Championships, hosted by Arizona, at Tucson, Ariz., Monday through Wednesday, April 24-26.

THE TOURNAMENT: The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at Sewailo Golf Club, a 6,458-yard track at a par-72…the course was voted as one of the top-25 courses in Arizona by Golfweek Magazine…teams will tee off each day beginning at 8 a.m. 

THE FIELD: All Pac-12 schools that sponsor golf will compete at the event, including No. 2 Arizona State, No. 3 Stanford, No. 5 UCLA, No. 10 USC, No. 13 Arizona, No. 22 California, No. 26 Colorado, No. 41 Oregon, Washington, Oregon State, and Washington State.

REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougars will be junior Alivia Brown, freshman Marie Lund-Hansen, sophomore Madison Odiorne, senior Cherokee Kim, and junior Bree Wanderscheid.

LAST TIME AT THE PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS: WSU finished 11th (+20, 884) and set a conference-championship team record for the lowest three-round and single-round totals after the final round of play at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships at Pleasanton, Calif., Apr. 18-20…the team's three-round total of 884 (+20) and first-round 287 (-1) are the lowest conference-championship scores in team history… Brown and Kim tied for 23rd at 2-over par (218), the third-best conference-championship scores in team history…then-senior Monica Huang tied for 36th (+6, 222)…Wanderscheid finished 54th (+18, 234), while then-senior Nani Yanagi finished in 55th place (+20, 236).

LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: The Cougars tied for 13th at the Silverado Showdown, Apr. 10-11, with a three-round score of 899 (+35)…Lund-Hansen recorded her fourth top-25 finish of the season after tying for 21st (+2, 218)…Kim shot 10-over to tie for 57th…Brown and Wanderscheid both tied for 64th (+13, 229), while Odiorne tied for 71st (+14, 230).

COACHING STAFF: The team is led by eighth-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the Cougars to a conference-championship team record for the lowest three-round and single-round totals at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships…WSU alumna Emma Betland is entering her third season as assistant coach, and golfed at WSU from 2010-2013.
