EL MACERO, Calif. – Washington State men's golf is tied for fifth with in-state rival Seattle University after two rounds of play, Thursday, at the El Macero Classic.
WSU improved by five strokes from the first round to move two spots up the leaderboard. The Cougars shot 31-over par (607) on the day, just eight strokes behind Pac-12 competitor Oregon State which is currently in first (+23, 599). Host-school UC Davis is in second (+25, 601), while Fresno State rounds out the top-three after two rounds (+27, 603). Grand Canyon sits in fourth (+29, 605), only two strokes ahead of WSU.
Leading the Cougars is junior Derek Bayley who is tied for eighth place after two rounds of play. Bayley carded five birdies in the second round and shot 6-over on the day (150). The junior golfer trails leader Ben Corfee of UC Davis by only five strokes (145).
Sitting just two strokes behind Bayley is freshman Daniel Kolar, who is tied for 16th with a two-round total of 152 (+8). Juniors Zach Anderson and Brian Mogg shot 9-over par on the day and are both tied for 22nd place with seven other golfers (153). Mogg moved 20 spots up the leaderboard from the first round.
Senior Nick Mandell ended the day tied for 31st place after shooting 5-over both rounds (+10, 154). Competing as an individual, sophomore AJ Armstrong is tied for 57th with a two-round score of 160 (+16).
