Penny Nichols of the Washington State swim team were named to the Pac-12 Conference All-Academic First Team, conference commissioner Larry Scott announced, Wednesday.
In total, 12 Cougar swimmers garnered academic honors from the conference, including two second team honors with seven receiving honorable mention. To be eligible for selection to the all-academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and participate in at least half of their team's scheduled regular season events.
Johnson was named to the all-academic first team with a 3.73 GPA for the third-consecutive season. As a member of the WSU Honors College, Johnson is pursuing a degree in biology. Kelly joins Johnson on the first team with a 3.86 GPA. She is pursuing a degree in pre-dentistry. Nichols earned a first team selection with a 3.76 GPA as a member of the WSU Honors College studying hospitality business management.
Senior
Anna Rosen and sophomore
Taylor Shewchuk earned second team selection honors. Rosen was named to the second team with a 3.60 GPA in mechanical engineering for the third-straight year. Shewchuk earned second team honors with a 3.68 GPA. She is pursuing a degree in business.

The Cougars have a history of exemplary academic performance in the classroom. In January, the team earned Team Scholar All-America honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. WSU boasted a 3.43 GPA in the fall semester. Last season, nine swimmers earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors.
