EUGENE, Ore. – Washington State men's golf sits in seventh place with Denver through two rounds of play at the Duck Invitational, Monday, at Eugene Country Club.
After shooting 8-over in the first round, WSU improved by one stroke in the second round and is tied with Denver at 583 (+15). Host-school and 10th-ranked Oregon leads the tournament after shooting 8-under par (560) on the day. Pac-12 competitors Arizona (+2, 570) and Oregon State (+5, 573) round out the top-three, while No. 29 San Diego State is in fourth place (+9, 577).Â
Oregon's Sulman Raza is in first after shooting 7-under (64) in the second round and finishing the day at 11-under par (131). Raza sits 13 strokes ahead of junior Zach Anderson, who is tied for 17th. Anderson had the best round of the day for the Cougars, shooting 1-under in the second round and ending the day with a score of 144 (+2).
Senior Nick Mandell trails Anderson by three strokes for a tie for 32nd. Mandell shot even-par in the first round and has a two-round total of 147 (+5). Junior Derek Bayley and sophomore AJ Armstrong are both tied for 37th place after shooting 6-over (148) through two rounds. Bayley moved 16 spots up the leaderboard from the first round, while Armstrong moved up 23 spots and carded nine birdies on the day.
Sophomore Grant Cole had a strong first round performance, shooting 1-over par and recording five birdies. Cole and freshman classmate Nicklaus Chiam, who is competing as an individual, are both tied for 46th place at 7-over par (149).
