LIHUE, Hawaii – The Washington State University men's golf team is in 15th place (+19, 595) after play Thursday, entering the third and final round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Friday, at Wailua Golf Course.
WSU shot a second-round 293 (+5), a nine-stroke improvement from the first round, to bring its two-round total to 595. No. 9 Virginia continues to lead the field with a score of 551 (-25). No. 25 Texas A&M shot 7-under on the day (281) and is in second place (-19, 557), while No. 20 UNLV is in third (-10, 566).
After shooting 1-over par in the second round, freshman Daniel Kolar is tied for 35th (+1, 145). Kolar carded an eagle on the front nine and trails leader Chandler Phillips of Texas A&M by 12 strokes.Â
Junior Derek Bayley shot four birdies on the day and is tied for 59th place with a two-round score of 148 (+4). Senior Nick Mandell and sophomore AJ Armstrong trail Bayley by four strokes, and are both tied for 85th (+8, 152).
Freshman Nicklaus Chiam improved his first-round score by seven strokes and is tied for 93rd (+9, 153) after two rounds of play.
