LIHUE, Hawaii – The Washington State University men's golf team is in 16th place (+14, 302) after one round of competition at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Wednesday, at Wailua Golf Course.
WSU shot 14-over par on the day and is 34 strokes back of leader No. 9 Virginia (-20, 268). No. 25 Texas A&M is in second at 276 (-12) and No. 20 UNLV rounds out the top three at 282 (-6).Â
Leading the Cougars is freshman Daniel Kolar, who carded four birdies in the first round and is tied for 23rd (E, 72). Kolar sits 10 strokes back of leader Jimmy Stanger of Virginia, who shot a course record of 10-under par (62) through one round of play.
After shooting 3-over in the first round, junior Derek Bayley is tied for 62nd place (75), just two strokes ahead of senior teammate Nick Mandell, who is tied for 80th (+5, 77). Mandell shot two eagles in the first round.
Sophomore AJ Armstrong is tied for 91st (+6, 78), while freshman Nicklaus Chiam is tied for 100th (+8, 80).Â
