SEATTLE -- Washington State track and field competitors are meeting some of the best competition of the season at the University of New Mexico Don Kirby Meet at the Albuquerque Convention Center and at the Husky Classic Meet at the Dempsey Indoor Facility in Seattle.
Friday night in Seattle,
Tucker Mjelde (junior, Maple Valley, Wash.) won Flight 1 of 2 in the men's pole vault with a personal record leap of 16-feet, 4 3/4 inches (5.00m). WSU's
Anden Lewis was second after clearing 15-11 (4.85m).

Danielle Carnahan placed third in the women's pole vault after clearing the bar at a PR height of 11-10 3/34 (3.63m).
Brock Eager (redshirt sophomore, Renton, Wash.) was the runner-up in the men's weight throw with a heave of 64-3 (19.58m).
On the oval,
Michael Williams (junior, Richland, Wash.) finished 17th in the men's elite 5000m race with a time of 14 minutes, 12.97 seconds and freshman
Kennan Schrag ran a time of 14:47.66 (44th). In the women's 5k, newcomer Vallery Korir, a junior transfer from Murray State, was the top Cougar finisher with a time of 17:11.99 (51st). Three WSU women reached PRs in the race:
Emily Dwyer ran a time of 17:12.80,
Morgan Willson ran a time of 17:12.90, and
Melissa Hruska ran a time of 17:38.22.
Meanwhile in the altitude-friendly
ALBUQUERQUE, Cougar sprinters ran to PRs in several events.
Zach Smith ran the 60m dash in a time of 6.88 seconds to be the fastest Cougar at seventh in the men's qualifying. In the men's 200m dash,
Ja'Maun Charles ran a time of 21.77 for 16th place with
Ethan Gardner 21st with a time of 21.88.
Jordyn Tucker was the fastest Cougar in the women's 60m dash qualifying at 41st with a time of 7.78. In the women's 200m dash,
Regyn Gaffney clocked in with a PR time of 24.69 for 33rd place.
Tierney Silliman's PR time of 24.80 was 38th place after she had run a 60m dash PR time of 7.82 earlier in the evening.
Both meets conclude with a full slate of competition Saturday.
