2018 Baseball Nonconference Schedule Set

| By:
PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State Baseball will host three nonconference series along with a pair of matchups against Gonzaga at Bailey-Brayton Field in 2018, head coach Marty Lees announced Wednesday.

The complete Pac-12 Conference schedule will be announced later this month once television selections are made.

The Cougars open the season with a trip to Arizona Feb. 16-18 to face UC Riverside and the University of Nebraska. WSU will face both teams twice during the opening weekend held at Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, the spring training home of the Los Angeles Angels. WSU owns a 7-6 all-time record against UC Riverside (Big West Conference) after taking three of four in Pullman in 2015. WSU and Nebraska have split their four matchups, the last being a Cornhusker win in 2000 in Arlington, Texas.

Washington State continues on the road with a midweek game at Grand Canyon University Feb. 20 in Phoenix before heading to Alabama for a three-game weekend series against the Crimson Tide Feb. 23-25. WSU will face Grand Canyon for the first time since 1996 while the only previous meeting with Alabama came in the 1950 College World Series in Omaha, a 9-1 Cougar win.

The Cougars open the month of March with an eight-game home stand, hosting four-game series with Sacramento State University (March 1-4) and Saint Mary's College (March 8-11). Last year, Sacramento State took two of three in the season-opening series in California. WSU will matchup against Saint Mary's for the first time since 2004 and it will be the first trip to Pullman for the Gaels.

Prior to opening their conference slate at UCLA, Washington State will face a 2017 NCAA Super Regional Team in Long Beach State in Long Beach, Calif. March 14. The Cougars dropped an 8-7 decision in the ninth inning in Long Beach last season.

WSU is also schedule to face Gonzaga University twice in Pullman (April 3, May 15) and once in Spokane (April 17).

The Cougars open Pac-12 play with two road series at UCLA and the University of Arizona in late March before closing out the month hosting Arizona State University. WSU opens April with a trip to Eugene to face the University of Oregon before returning home to host the University of California and Santa Clara University (April 20-22), the first trip to Pullman for the Broncos.

In late April, Washington State heads to the western side of the state to face Seattle University (April 25) and the University of Washington the final weekend of April. The Cougars host Oregon State University and USC the first two weekends of May before heading to Stanford for a series and returning to Pullman to close out the regular season hosting the University of Utah the final weekend of May.
