BURNABY, British Columbia – Former Cougar rowers took gold, silver and bronze in the women's pair, as a combination of six former and current Washington State rowers competed at the 2017 RCA National Rowing Championships, the Canada Cup, at Burnaby Lake, Nov. 7-12.

Emma Gribbon all represented Washington State rowing at the championships.
Roman teamed up with her Canadian National teammate, Kristin Bauder to compete for Row Ontario as the B crew. The duo outstroked Roman's fellow-Olympians, Hare and Christine Roper by less than a second to win the championship with a time of 7:22.270. Hare and Roper's Alberta/Ontario C crew came in second with a time of 7:22.948, followed by Cathrea with Olivia King representing Rowing British Columbia as the C crew, in third with a time of 7:29.270.
In the first heats, Hare placed second, Roman third and Cathrea fourth, all advancing straight to the A/B Semifinals. Cathrea and Hare each won their A/B Semifinals, as Roman finished behind Hare in the heat, and all three advanced to the A Final and a chance to medal.
Elling Quaintance and Thomson paired up to form Rowing Ontario/Rowing British Columbia F. The duo went onto win the B Final with a time at 7.37.253, finishing 0.6 seconds ahead of the second place crew to place seventh overall. The pair got to the B Final by starting competition placing eighth in the opening heat, then winning their Repechage heat to move on to the A/B Semifinal. A fifth place finish in the A/B Semifinal earned the pair a spot in the B Final.
Cougar freshman,
Emma Gribbon, placed 19th in the women's pair as one half of the Rowing British Columbia I crew, along with Danae McCulloch. They moved to the Repechage heats, but were unable to advance to finals.
