The Washington State University volleyball team ended the 2016 season ranked No. 24 in the Final AVCA Coaches Poll with a 22-12 overall record: the most wins in a season since 2002, and tied for fifth-best all-time wins in WSU history with the 1988 team...WSU's 11-9 Pac-12 record, tied for fifth place, was the most conference wins for the Cougars since 2002 (also 11)...the Cougars received an at-large bid to the 2016 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament, the 11th trip to the NCAAs for the WSU program and the first under sixth-year WSU Head Coach

22 wins most in a season since 2002, and tied for 5th-most in WSU history…Head Coach
Jen Greeny was part of three of the five seasons with more wins than 2016: as a player in 1996 (27 wins) and 1997 (26 wins), and as an assistant coach in 2002 (24 wins).
WSU's 11 conference wins (tied for 5th in Pac-12) is the 4th-best conference win total in WSU history, and the most wins since 2002 season (11-7)...Head Coach
Jen Greeny was a part of six of the eight season with the same or better finish: as a player in 1995 (t-2nd), 1996 (2nd), 1997 (t-4th), and 1998 (t-5th), and as an assistant coach in 2000 (t-5th) and 2002 (t-3rd).
WSU broke 24-year old school records for single-season blocks assists (653) and total blocks (413.5)…both records were broken in fewer sets played (128 in 2016 vs. 137 in 1992) and in rally scoring format instead of the sideout scoring format…in 2016 the Cougars kept opponents hitting an average of .168 which was the lowest percentage in the conference and 26th-best in the NCAA this season…2016 percentage is fourth-best all-time (1983) and the best in the past 18 seasons (.156 in 1997).
First time in school history that WSU has achieved 3-0 sweeps at both Arizona and Arizona State and the first time since 1995 that WSU won both matches at ASU and UA in the same year, the other years being 1991 and 1995…first 3-0 win at Arizona since 1992, the third 3-0 win at Arizona all-time, and the fifth WSU win in Tucson all-time.

Jen Greeny has been a part of eight of those wins as either a player or coach…only the fourth 3-0 sweep at Tempe in 31 matches and the first since 2002.Â

WSU's win over No. 9 Stanford Sept. 30 was the first since the 2002 season, breaking a 14-year 25-match losing streak…also the fourth win all-time over Stanford and
Jen Greeny has been on the court for all four: as a player in 1996, as an assistant coach in 2000 and 2002, and head coach in 2016. This was the first five-set win over Stanford.
WSU's win over the Stanford was the second time the Cougars defeated the eventual National Champion...in 1996 WSU defeated eventual NCAA DI champion Stanford.
First win vs UCLA since 2002, breaking a 14-year, 26-match losing streak, first win at UCLA since 1997 breaking a 19-year/18-match losing streak, and third win at UCLA all-time…
Jen Greeny was part of all eight wins vs UCLA all-time (as a player in 1995, 2x in 1996 and in 1997, as an assistant coach in 2000 and 2002, and as a head coach in 2016)…in Cougars vs Bruins history there have been eight five-set matches with WSU claiming two wins…WSU's 3-2 win was the only five-set win over UCLA at home in 2016.

WSU Team rankings reached in 2016 include: 35 block assists at Baylor is 5th-best for a match, 19 total blocks vs. Arizona State tied for 4th-best for 5-set match, 16 total blocks vs. Northeastern tied for 5th-best in 3-set match.
At the end of the regular season, WSU was No. 1 in NCAA DI stats for total team blocks with 399.5 and No. 3 in blocks per set at 3.30 bps.

Jen Greeny is the third Pac-10/12 Conference Coach of the Year from WSU (Cindy Fredrick 1995, Andrew Palileo 2009), making WSU have the third-most Pac-12 COY honorees…2016 is only the sixth time a woman has earned the honor in 34 years…in total, 18 different coaches have earned the COY in the Pac-10/12 Conference and Greeny is the sixth-youngest coach to be honored.

Jen Greeny is one of an elite group of conference Coach of the Year honorees who also were outstanding players for the same schools…as a player, she became the seventh player in WSU history with 1,000 career kills and was a three-time All-Pac-10 selection...she trained with the 1997 U.S. National volleyball team and was the WSU Athlete of the Year in 1998-99…other NCAA DI coaches who were players at the schools where they became the conference coach of the year include Bobbi (Becker) Petersen, University of Northern Iowa (player 1986-89) and the Missouri Valley Conference COY five times, and Colgate's Vicky Chun, the 1991 Patriot League Volleyball Player of the Year and 1996 Patriot League Volleyball Coach of the Year.
