WSU SPLIT SQUADS OPEN 2017 INDOOR TRACK & FIELD SEASON
Washington State University's indoor track and field teams open the 2017 indoor season two different meets...Jan. 13-14 there will be 25 men and 17 women sprinters, hurdlers, vertical jumpers and throwers scheduled to compete at the Ed Jacoby Invitational/Multis hosted by Boise State at the Idaho Center/Jacksons Indoor Facility in Nampa, Idaho...field events begin Friday at 4:30 p.m. MT and Saturday at 9 a.m. MT...running events for Cougars begin Saturday at 11 a.m. MT...meanwhile, 14 men and 15 women middle distance, distance, and horizontal jumpers are scheduled to compete at the University of Washington Indoor Preview Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Dempsey Indoor Facility in Seattle...field events begin at 9 a.m. and running events begin at 9:30 a.m....links for Live Results should be available the day before each meet...WSU results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com, following completion of each meet.
WAYNE PHIPPS, DIR. OF WSU CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD
Wayne Phipps (University of British Columbia '91) is in his third season with the Washington State track and field program...he became the 15th men's coach and the second coach for the combined men's and women's program at WSU on July 1, 2014, after 19 years at the University of Idaho...Phipps led the Cougar men's cross country program back-to-back NCAA Championships at-large berth appearances with a 14th-place finish in 2016: the highest in 32 years after the entire 2015 team that placed 26th returned for the 2016 season....during the 2016 Track & Field season, a pair of Cougs earned second-team All-America honors...Cougars tallied 25 new entries into the WSU all-time top ten records...while at Idaho, Phipps was honored 14 times as a conference coach of the year and led the Vandals to a record 16 conference titles.
