PULLMAN, Wash. –
Kailiana Johnson and
Alysha Overland scored second-half goals to propel Washington State to a 2-1 victory over Boise State Sunday afternoon in front of 612 fans at Lower Soccer Field.

The Cougars (5-2-1) began strong, controlling play for the majority of the first half but could not find the net as despite holding an 11-2 advantage in shots, the first half ended 0-0.

Three minutes into the second half the Cougars broke through as following a Boise State (1-7-1) foul, Johnson served the ensuing free kick into the box where it pinged around before finding its way into the net for the 1-0 lead. It marked the second goal of the season for Johnson and ninth of her career.

Less than 10 minutes later, in the 57th minute, the WSU defense had trouble clearing the ball and the Broncos made them pay. Kristina Serres redirected a cross toward the goal where it was blocked, but the rebound came right back to her as she finished to the right side of the goal, drawing the Boise State even at 1-1.

In the 70th minute, Overland provided the game winner. Working out of the back, senior defender
Susie White sent a long ball up the right side for Overland to run onto. The Cougar sophomore took a touch before cutting back inside the goal area where finished inside the far left post with the game-winner. It was Overland's fourth goal of the season and her third game-winner.

For the contest the Cougars held a 16-6 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. WSU goalkeeper
Ella Dederick improved to 5-2-1 on the season as she made one save.

Washington State, undefeated in its last five contests (4-0-1), will open Pac-12 Conference play Friday when it hosts Colorado at Lower Soccer Field. Match time is set for 5 p.m. and will be televised by the Pac-12 Network.
