PULLMAN, Wash. – Ashley Hatch's second goal of the game gave No. 16 Brigham Young a 2-1, double overtime victory over Washington State in front of a Lower Soccer Field record 2,623 fans Friday evening.

Following regulation and the first overtime, the two teams were tied at 1-1. Early in the second overtime WSU's Sofia Anker-Kofoed nearly won the game as her shot from the top of the box just sailed wide of the net in the first minute. Nearly four minutes later, BYU's Nadia Gomes flew down the left side near the end line, crossed the ball into the box where Hatch redirected it to the lower right corner past Ella Dederick for the game-winner.

The game began with BYU controlling play early and drawing a penalty kick in the fifth minute. On the kick, Dederick dove low to her left, making the save and giving WSU the early boost. The teams played even until the 29th minute when WSU senior Kaitlyn Johnson's shot from just outside the box found the upper left corner of the net, giving WSU the 1-0 lead and marking Johnson's 12th career goal.

WSU looked to extend its lead 11 minutes later when defender Kelsee Krenshaw collect a loose ball inside the box and sent a low shot to the far post. The ball beat the keeper but a BYU defender was there to deflect it away, keeping it a one-goal game.

WSU carried a 1-0 lead deep into the second half and controlled play much of that time until Hatch's shot in the 77th minute deflected off the back of a WSU defender and just over the reach of Dederick, tying the game.

The record-setting attendance came on Washington State's first athletic event of the 2016-17 season. The 2,623 fans broke the previous Lower Soccer Field mark of 2,251, which came last season against Arizona.

For the contest BYU held a 20-18 shot advantage while Dederick finished her night with six saves.

WSU is next in action Thursday when it hosts No. 19 Santa Clara at Lower Soccer Field. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
