Cougar Rowing Commits Eight in the Early Signing Period for 2017-18 Season

The incoming student-athletes represent three different states and five different countries. 

PULLMAN, Wash. – Eight prospective student-athletes have committed or signed National Letters of Intent to row for Washington State University beginning next season, head coach Jane LaRiviere announced, Thursday.

"I'm pleased to announce our future Cougs, Class of 2021," LaRiviere said. "They are a diverse group of athletes who all share a commitment to school, training and racing.  It has been our pleasure getting to know them and watching their development.  We can't wait to get them on campus."

Emma Barrett (Vienna, Va.) rows for both James Madison High School and Resilient Rowing Club, and has posted many impressive results. Last summer, she won the U19 pair at the 2016 US Rowing Club Nationals and went on to place third in the same event at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. Barrett plans to pursue pre-medicine at WSU, with hopes of becoming a sports doctor.

Jordyn Brounstein (Petaluma, Calif.) has been rowing for North Bay Rowing Club and has competed with her club at several large regattas, including the Head of the Charles in Boston.  She plans to study Education and Psychology at WSU.

Colombe de Rouvroy (Auckland, New Zealand) is rowing for Glendowie College and coach Josh Schmidt at Auckland, New Zealand. She notched grand final appearances in each of her three sculling and sweep events at the 2016 Maadi Cup, New Zealand's premier secondary schools' rowing event. She plans to study international business while at WSU.

Isabelle Gahard (Mercer Island, Wash.) has been competing to be the top coxswain at Mt. Baker Junior Rowing since she joined the team, and has earned the top coxswain seat in the varsity eight each of the last two years. She looks forward to studying zoology at WSU, with the dreams of becoming a small animal veterinarian in the future.

Emma Gribbon (Victoria, British Columbia) is rowing for Claremont Secondary School and has competed with Victoria City Rowing Club. She attended the CanAmMex Regatta at Sarasota, Fla. with the 2016 Canadian National Junior Rowing Team. As a sophomore, Gribbon represented British Columbia in the Western Canada Summer Games. And as a freshman, she won the U17 Royal Canadian Henley in the quad. Gribbon is currently undecided on an academic area to pursue at WSU.

Lisa Gutfleisch (Heidelberg, Germany) is performing well in the junior single and double sculls within the German racing circuits, and is a proven competitor. She attended Heidelberg College. When training allows, she enjoys riding her Icelandic horses with her mom. She is excited to study environmental science while she rows for the Cougars.

Kateryna Maistrenko (Kiev, Ukraine) has rowed for in both the European Junior Championship and World Rowing Junior Championships. She has been coached by her father, Anatoli Maistrenko. Kateryna looks forward to studying psychology and kinesiology when she arrives at WSU.

Juliet Perry (Black Diamond, Wash.) is a coxswain for Holy Names Academy. At a school with a deep pool of coxswains, Perry, continually competes for top seats. She is coached by Caitlin McClain, and recently finished third-place in the juniors' varsity four at the Head of the Lake. She plans to study psychology at WSU.

Washington State will open its spring season, March 25 at Wawawai Landing on the Snake River in dual action against Gonzaga.
