Cougars to Play in 2017 Wooden Legacy over Thanksgiving

The tournament will take place on the campus of Cal State Fullerton and the Honda Center.

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State men's basketball team will play in the 2017 Wooden Legacy, a 12-game bracketed in-season tournament over Thanksgiving Weekend, Nov. 23, 24 and 26 of next year, at Southern California.

Cal State Fullerton (Big West Conference), which will host the first two days of the 2017 Wooden Legacy on its campus at Titan Gym November 23 and 24, will be one of the five schools in the field with previous experience in the three-day event on Thanksgiving weekend.  The placement games for the 2017 Wooden Legacy will be played November 26 at Honda Center in Anaheim.

Washington State and Cal State Fullerton are joined in the tournament by 2013 Wooden Legacy champion, San Diego State (Mountain West Conference), Saint Mary's (West Coast Conference), DePaul (Big East Conference), Georgia (Southeastern Conference), Harvard (Ivy League) and Saint Joseph's (Atlantic 10 Conference).

The Wooden Legacy was formed in June 2013 as two vibrant, nationally-recognized in-season collegiate basketball events joined forces as the John R. Wooden Classic was merged with the Anaheim Classic that had been played the previous six years (2007-2012) at the Anaheim Convention Center.  The Wooden Classic was staged 19 years (1994-2012) at Honda Center with the first 17 events being college doubleheaders.

The Cougars played in the Anaheim Classic, which at the time was the 76 Classic, Nov. 24, 25 and 27, 2011. The Cougars went 0-3 in that tournament, falling to Oklahoma, New Mexico and UC Riverside. WSU is 84-85 all-time in regular season tournaments after going 1-2 this year at the Paradise Jam at St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
