Falk Named Burlsworth Finalist, Walter Camp Player of the Year Semifinalist

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State quarterback Luke Falk was named a Player of the Year semifinalist by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and a Burlsworth Trophy finalist by the Burlsworth Trophy selection committee and the Springdale Rotary Club. Falk received the same recognition from both awards last season.

Falk enters the week first in the NCAA in completion percentage (73.9), second in passing (361.0), third in passing yards (3,610), fourth in total offense (356.2) and fifth in passing touchdowns (33). The Logan, Utah native leads the Pac-12 Conference in all of those categories with the exception of touchdown passes, where he ranks second. Falk has posted eight 300-yard games this season including three games of 400-plus yards. Falk has guided WSU to eight-straight wins and has been at his best over the past four games, where he has completed 143-of-184 passes (77.7 percent) for 1,497 yards, 17 touchdowns and one interception.

The Walter Camp Football Foundation Player of the Year award (15 Semifinalists) is the fourth-oldest college football award in the nation. The Walter Camp Player of the Year is voted on by the 128 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors. A list of five finalists will be announced on Wednesday, November 30, and the winner broadcast live on ESPN SportsCenter on Thursday, Dec. 8.

The Burlsworth Trophy (Three Finalists) is awarded to the most outstanding football player in America who began his career as a walk-on. Burlsworth's life is also the subject of a major motion picture, "GREATER", which was released earlier this year. Finalists will be honored and the winner of the 2016 Burlsworth Trophy announced Dec. 5 at a banquet in Springdale, Ark., sponsored by the Springdale Rotary Club.

The trophy is named in honor of Brandon Burlsworth. Without one D1 scholarship offer, Brandon walked on to the Razorback team in 1994, worked his way to being a three-year starter and was eventually named an All-American in 1998. Burlsworth was selected as the 63rd overall pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1999 NFL draft, but was tragically killed in a car accident 11 days later. The Burlsworth Foundation was created in his memory and supports the physical and spiritual needs of children, in particular those children who have limited opportunities.
