Cougar Swimming Inks Seven To National Letters of Intent

PULLMAN, Wash. – Seven incoming student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to the Washington State swimming team, head coach Tom Jager announced earlier this week.
 
"We are very excited about this recruiting class," Jager said. "They are athletic, fast, smart and each and every one of them is a great person. This class will help us further climb in the Pac-12. I can't wait to coach them and be a part of their success."
 
Taylor McCoy is no stranger to Washington State University and the Cougar Swimming program. McCoy attends Pullman High School and is a member of the Gold Medal Swim Club under coach Dan Lawson.  As a member of the Pullman High School swim team, McCoy is undefeated in the 2A State Championships in the 100 back and 200 IM during her first three years of competition. She was a 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials Qualifier in the 200 backstroke. At the 2016 U.S. Open, she placed 19th in the 200-meter back and 27th in the 100-meter back. During the 2016 Western Zone Sectionals in Austin, Texas, McCoy notched the top spot in the 200-meter back, placed fourth in the 100-meter back and finished 14th in 200-meter IM. McCoy also competed at the 2016 Summer Junior Nationals where she finished 13th in 200-meter back. She was named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American as a sophomore and junior.
 
Maia Petrides is out of the Mid Pacific Institute in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is a member of the Kamehameha Swim Club under coaches John Flanagan and Kevin Flanagan. As a junior, Petrides placed fourth in the 500 free and seventh in the 200 free at the Hawaii State Championships. She also was a futures finalist and sectionals finalist during her junior year.
 
Newcomer Chloe Larson is a freestyle sprinter out of St. Thomas More High School in Rapid City, SD. Larson was a member of the Greater Nebraska Swim Team under coaches Beth Eldridge and Amy Larson. During her junior and senior years, she was a National Qualifier and a Junior National Qualifier. She was named USA Swimming Scholastic All-American for three-consecutive years. As a sophomore, Larson broke the 50 and 100 free records in South Dakota.
 
Alba Fores joins the 2017 signing class as a mid-distance swimmer from Sweden. She is a member of Malmö Kappsimningsklubb under coaches Magnus Lennartsson and Stefan Nilsson. As a member of the Swedish Junior National Team, Fores competed in the 2013 and 2014 European Junior Championships. In 2015, she won gold in the 800 long course free as a member of the senior national team. She has total of seven individual senior medals, 12 individual junior medals and 10 senior relay gold medals. Fores joins two current WSU swimmers who also hail from Sweden in Linnea Lindberg (Stockholm, Sweden) and Anna Rosen (Molndal, Sweden).
 
Sam Howell is a mid-distance swimmer from Austin, Texas. She swam in the 200-meter free at the 2016 Speedo Junior Nationals. Howell also competed in the 2016 USA Swimming Futures Championships where she finished 14th in the 200 free and 15th in the 400 free.
 
Kelly Morgan, originally from Virginia, recently moved to Edmonds, Wash., and now swims club for West Coast Aquatics. Last year, Morgan competed at the Virginia 6A State High School League Championships where she placed seventh in the 200 free and 100 fly.
 
Emily Cook is out of Jesuit High School in Portland, Ore., and swims club for Tualatin Hills Swim Club. Cook is a talented all-around swimmer who can contribute to the Cougars in numerous events. During her junior year, she took fourth place in the 200 IM and 100 fly at the Oregon 6A State Championships. Over the summer, Cook placed sixth in the 2016 USA Swimming Futures Championships competing in the 100 back.
