Men's Basketball

David Sanders led a quartet of Cougars who scored in double figures with 17 points as Washington State defeated Washington, 70-63, before 4,525 fans at Hec Edmundson Pavilion in Seattle.

Harold Wright and Todd Anderson each scored 16 points and Brian Wright added 13 points to complete the double-digit scoring contingent.

For the game, the Cougars shot 24-of-48 from the field including 6-of-8 from 3-point territory. In each half, WSU shot 50 percent, 13-of-26 in the first half and 11-of-22 in the second half.

It was the Cougars' first win at Washington since a 72-68 victory, Jan. 5, 1980.

Women's Basketball

Kristin Metson scored 25 points to lead Washington State to a 77-60 victory over California at Pullman.

Metson garnered her game-high point total on 10-of-13 shooting. In addition to her scoring prowess, Metson grabbed 10 rebounds for the Cougars. Darci Wellsandt and Heather Norman also scored in double figures with 18 and 11 points, respectively.

For the game, the Cougars, who improved their record to 9-3, shot 31-of-63 (49.2 percent) from the field.
