Women’s Basketball

Jenni Ruff scored 36 points and grabbed 12 rebounds leading the Cougars to an 86-72 victory over Houston in the championship game of the Lady (Houston) Cougar Classic.

Ruff’s performance earned her most valuable player honors in the tournament. The win was WSU’s seventh straight and improved its record to 8-2.

Julie Wight added 22 points and Kristin Erickson chipped in 17 for the Cougars.

WSU built as much as a 25-point lead in the first half and led 48-26 at the half.

Men’s Basketball

Marcus Moore scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half and the Cougars rallied to beat California, 55-50, and end a 22-game road losing streak in the Pac-10.

Moore scored seven straight points in a 9-2 WSU run in the second half, including a 3-pointer with 5:22 left that gave the Cougars a 49-48 lead.

The win matched the Cougars' win total for all of 2002-03 and broke an eight-game losing streak in Berkeley.
