A Decade of Excellence: 2004-05
Programs place a record 113 selections to Pac-10 All-Academic Teams. Soccer 4-1-2 against nationally-ranked opponents and team GPA of 3.45 was eighth best nationally. Men's basketball broke a 20-game losing streak at Arizona and a 38-game skid overall to the Wildcats with a 70-63 win, Jan. 29...win also halted 26-game road losing streak and 48-game slide overall to ranked opponents. Kate Benz becomes the first Cougar ever to lead the conference in rebounding at 9.1/game. Swimming finishes third nationally in fall 2004 with a 3.54 team grade point average.
Women's golf earns NCAA West Regional berth for fourth straight year; Anastasia Kostina named All-American, only the second WSU golfer (Kim Welch) to be named an All-American. Kim Welch named a 2004-05 Golfweek Preseason All-American; finishes third at Pac-10 Championships, the best finish by a Cougar at the conference championships. Tyson Byers finishes fifth in the pole vault at the NCAA Championships; twin sisters Julie and Diana Pickler finished fifth and sixth, respectively in the heptathlon.
