A Decade of Excellence

• Tallied a school record 351.5 points in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Directors' Cup standings; received points in eight of 17 sports to finish 55th out of 268 scoring institutions.

• Football Pac-10 co-champions and earns fourth Rose Bowl appearance, marking the first time Cougar teams have played in bowl games in consecutive seasons.

• Rien Long becomes first Cougar to win a national award - capturing the Outland Trophy as the nation's premier interior lineman.

• Jason Gesser becomes WSU's sixth Heisman Trophy finalist - finishing national balloting sixth.

• Volleyball defeats No. 1 ranked Stanford, the first win for the program over a No. 1 ranked team; advances to Elite Eight of NCAA Tournament; ranked No. 7 in the final USA Today/AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll.

• Soccer earns berth to NCAA Championship, the second in three years.

Lindsay Henahan finishes 16th in the 100 butterfly at NCAA Swim Championships.

• Swimming's GPA of 3.50 was third among Division I women's programs and earned All-American status from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

• For the third time in four years, women's golf earns NCAA West Regional bid, finish seventh at the regional and advance to the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history. Sophomore Kim Welch finishes fifth nationally, becoming the first WSU golfer to earn All-America accolades.

• Whitney Evans captures NCAA Championship in high jump and Ellannee Richardson finishes second in heptathlon. Women's track finishes 12th at NCAA Championships, highest since 1986 (10th).

• Whitney Evans names Scholar-Athlete of the Year for NCAA Division I by the United States Track Coaches Association.

• Eric Dudley Named Verizon Academic All-American of the Year for Track, finishes sixth in 400 IM hurdles at NCAA Championships leading men's team to a tie for 27th at championships.

• For the first time in school history, rowing selected as a team to NCAA Championships; finishes 12th; tied for third at the Pac-10 championships, the best ever for program.

• WSU hosts NCAA Men's Basketball First and Second Rounds at the Spokane Arena.
