June 20, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA released its 2010-11 Academic Progress Rate (APR) figures and all 17 of Washington State University's intercollegiate athletic programs are in compliance with the association's guidelines, it was announced Wednesday.

"Congratulations go out to our coaches, student-athletes and staff for continuing to achieve beyond the benchmarks set forth by the NCAA," said WSU Director of Athletics Bill Moos. "I applaud all their efforts for upholding their role as student-athletes at Washington State University."

The APR is an annual assessment of each team's academic and retention history. The APR awards two points each term to student-athletes on athletic scholarship who meet academic-eligibility standards and who remain with the institution. A team's APR is the total points earned by the team at a given time divided by the total points possible. The overall APR score is based on the most recent four years of data. Every year thereafter, the most current year's data will be added and the oldest year of data will be removed, creating a four-year rolling rate.

The WSU football team recorded a four-year average score of 933, an improvement from last year's score of 925, and meeting the NCAA's 925 standard.

The highest multi-year APR score at WSU was earned by the men's golf team, which recorded a perfect 1000 score. Programs that reached an average score above 975 included women's cross country (986), women's outdoor track (979), women's indoor track (977), soccer (978), tennis (976), rowing (972) and women's golf (977).

On the men's side baseball posted an average score of 969, followed by outdoor (968) and indoor track (966), basketball (961) and cross country (944).

Additional women's multi-year scores include swimming (969), basketball (966) and volleyball (931).

Women's basketball and both men's and women's golf achieved perfect single-year scores of 1000 during the 2010-11 academic year.
