| Moderator: Good afternoon Cougars and welcome to this afternoon's chat with soccer coach Keidane McAlpine. Just a little more than an hour ago, the Cougars received a berth to the 64-team NCAA Championship field. WSU will travel to face Portland in the first round. Coach McAlpine, congratulations to you and the team. |
Keidane McAlpine: Thank you so much. It's great to be in the NCAAs again and we look forward to playing a tough Portland team. |
| Joanie Ries (Portland): Congratulations, Coug women Coach McAlpine! I'm in Portland and will have a Coug contigent there if we can get tickets. Date/time? |
Keidane McAlpine: Joanie, thank you for your comments. Yes, gametime is set for Friday at 7 p.m. We would love to have as many Cougars out there to support the team as possible. We have had great support all year and really appreciate the Coug fans. |
| Vince (Spokane): It's your first year here in Pullman. Is this the expected result so far? |
Keidane McAlpine: Vince, the team had reached the NCAAs three of the past four years before I arrived so, yes, this is an expected result. |
| Christian (Moscow): What did you tell the team after hearing that you're in? |
Keidane McAlpine: Congratulations, this is what you've worked hard for. The schedule prepared us for this, and you should be confident going into this game. |
| Howie (Yakima): Great job coach! Do you think playing that tough Pac-12 schedule helps you going in to the tournament? |
Keidane McAlpine: Howie, yes playing in one of the top conferences in the country can only prepare you for NCAA play. We had to prepare week in and week out to face some of the top teams in the country. |
| Moderator: We have two questions from Dennis in Pullman and Sue from the Palouse about your thoughts on Portland. |
Keidane McAlpine: Portland is one of the toughest places to play in the country. They have a couple of fantastic forwards and a really strong defensive team. I do think we match up well against them, though. It will be a very exciting NCAA game. |
| Michael (Spokane): What are your strengths and weaknesses heading into the postseason? Keep it up coach! |
Keidane McAlpine: Michael, we continue to improve every week trying to get better in scoring more goals and limiting mental mistakes. We have great depth, which I consider to be a strength, and have shown great improvement in defending against the better teams. |
| Joanie Ries: Thank you, coach! ON IT! |
Keidane McAlpine: Thanks Joanie! Look forward to meeting you. Go Cougs! |
| Moderator: Okay, we'll let coach go to prepare for Friday's game against Portland. Thank you for joining us once again. |
Keidane McAlpine: Thank you to everyone for your questions. I enjoyed answering them. We really appreciate all the support we received this year. It has been a great first year and we plan to keep it going. Go Cougs! |
| Moderator: Thank you Cougars for joining us today and good luck Keidane at the NCAAs. Join us for our next chat, Wednesday with men's basketball coach Ken Bone at 5:30 p.m. Go Cougs! |
