Chat with Washington State Athletic Director Bill Moos on Tuesday, October 12 at 3:00 p.m. PT.
| Moderator: Good afternoon Cougar fans and thank you for visiting WSUCougars.com and today's online chat with WSU Athletics Director Bill Moos. Bill, welcome to the chat room once again. We have a lot of questions to answer so let's get right to it. |
| Robert Gilmore from Bellevue: What is the status of the stadium renovation? How is the fundraising effort going?
Thank you! |
Bill Moos: Robert, we are still in the process of exploring a variety of options of facility enhancements, some of which include the expansion and renovation of Martin Stadium. I continue to feel that facilities that will attract talent to our campus should be considered when looking at our next steps. |
| Jason Gross (Anacortes): Any favorite division models for the PAC-12? |
Bill Moos: Jason, my preference would be the four Northwest schools along with Stanford and Cal to make up the Pac-12 Northern Division. |
| Evan (Brookfield, NV): Are you expecting the best student turnout of the year at Martin Stadium on Saturday? |
Bill Moos: Evan, I expect the best student turnout every Saturday of a home game at Martin Stadium. We have the best student supporters in the conference and they need to know how much they are appreciated and needed in order for Cougar Football to be successful. |
| Daniel (Los Angeles): There has been much to do about facility upgrades and starting new traditions for Cougar football. Can we expect anything of the same for Basketball? |
Bill Moos: Daniel, the short answer is yes. We need to address facility improvements in Beasley Coliseum and determine where those upgrades should be on our list of priorities. I am hopeful that traditions of a long-standing nature will be established in all Cougar sports programs. |
| John (Mill Creek: Bill
Great to have you aboard as the AD. When will the new plans for the facilities at WSU be presented? Looking forward to hearing about the plans you have. |
Bill Moos: John, I'm hoping that we will be in a position to announce our plans sometime later this fall. |
| Keirene Adams - Vancouver, WA: I have noted that you understand the financial discrepency between WSU and other schools in our PAC 10/12. My questions are, #1.. At the meeting in LA with the other PAC 10 AD's were you able to assist WSU in gaining the same financial playing level as the other schools we compete against? If not, what can we as parents and alumni of WSU? My #2nd question is, does it bother you or seem appropriate that the WSU head football coach not wear a head set? How can he coach without it. To some, including myself, it looks as if he has given up on his team. How can you coach without the headset? Would like to know your thoughts? And, thank you....we feel very lucky to have you as our AD....GO COUGS! |
Bill Moos: Keirene, I felt at the conclusion of our recent meetings regarding Pac-12 television revenue that Washington State would benefit greatly and am hopeful that the conference CEOs will adopt the athletic directors' recommendations. In answer to your second question, it does not bother me that Coach Wulff does not wear a headset. I have great confidence that he knows what's best in regards to the communication aspect with his coaches. |
| Corey (Selah): Bill,
Last Saturday at the Homecoming game, the CMS staff blocked an egress route of the stadium for the Oregon band. This created a jam of people having to use one set of steps to come from the east side and RV parking to get to their seats on the North side. I just want to make sure that doesn't happen again. |
Bill Moos: Thank you Corey. It is helpful for me and my staff to hear these types of concerns so we can address them for future events. |
| Spokane: Are print copies of the 2010 Football Press Guide and the 2010-2011 Mens Basketball Press Guide
available for sale this year? |
Bill Moos: Printed copies for prospective student-athletes are no longer permissible by the NCAA. However, fans can access a PDF version of the guide by going to the football website, and a PDF version will soon be posted on the men's basketball page. |
| Corey (Selah): Bill,
If you move the OSU game to Seattle next year, is there a possibility for it to be a multi year deal so that OSU plays their home game there the following year as well? |
Bill Moos: Corey, before any decision is made on where our future football games will be played we will need to have the future Pac-12 schedules in place. Hopefully, this will occur in the next few weeks and we can start to explore our options for potential games in Seattle. |
| Donny (Pullman): Bill i was just wondering exactly where the football only faculty would be located. Thanks and as all ways GO COUGS!!! |
Bill Moos: Donny, though I like the prospect of pursuing a football facility there is no guarantee that we will be constructing one soon. We are still exploring our options at this time. |
| Don (Issaquah): Hi Bill- As far as a gameday experience, the Cougar Marching Band needs help. Seems like we've had the same thing year after year, and a playlist that doesn't feature anything newer than the 60's. Is the Cougar Marching Band on your radar as AD? |
Bill Moos: Don, improving all aspects of the Gameday experience for Cougar Football is always on my radar. Thoughts and suggestions from our fans are always welcome. |
| Collin (Pullman): In reference to the student having the best student supporters. I have noticed the opposite. I am a student and there has been many negative things that students have done/said about the team. Is there a way to get the students more connected? Maybe starting a marketing campaign about believing etc... I believe but many others don't. |
Bill Moos: Collin, when I talk about Cougar students being outstanding fans, I'm referring to their loyalty and support throughout the years. We are putting a great deal of thought and energy into better marketing the Gameday experience for our students. Again, thoughts and suggestions are appreciated. |
| Dan (Spokane): Is there still any discussion about the creation of a league TV network, a la the Big Ten Network? I seem to remember some insinuations about that this past summer, and talk about the revenue it would generate for the conference institutions. |
Bill Moos: Dan, the plan at this time is for the creation of a Pac-12 Network that would bring additional exposure for our conference, as well as supplement the television revenue streams for all member institutions. |
| Moderator: Okay, that's all the time we have. Bill, thank you for joining us once again. |
Bill Moos: Once again, I've enjoyed this opportunity to communicate with our Cougar fans. I look forward to hopefully answering more of your questions in the future. Have a great day and I hope to see you in Martin Stadium on Saturday as the Cougars face the Arizona Wildcats. Go Cougs! |
