Moderator: Good afternoon Cougars and welcome to today's chat with WSU Deputy Director of Athletics Mike Marlow. Thank you for joining us. Before we begin, you will notice links at the top of this page. They include the Homecoming Uniform vote. Vote for what uniform you want to see the Cougars wear for their Homecoming game vs. Colorado, Sept. 22. for 2012 football tickets, the Cougar Athletic Fund, the fundraising arm of the WSU Athletic Department, and Cougar Football Gameday Central, your one-stop resource on the web for all information about the game and the activities surrounding Cougar Football Saturday at the WSU campus. Mike thank you for joining us this afternoon.
Mike Marlow: Thank you fellow Cougars for making this the most exciting time in Cougar history. Looking forward to answering your questions as best I can.
Moderator: okay, let's get right to it.

Len [spokane]: How does coach Leach feel about the Oregon games being played in Seattle.
Mike Marlow: Len, early in his tenure as head football coach, Coach Leach spoke to the special relationship that must exist between the fans and athletic program. We believe Seattle is a critical market for us to develop a sustainable fan base. Coach Leach understands this strategy.

GunMetalGray (Vancouver): What ever happened to the donor scroll? It was to recognize everyone that donated $5k and up to the stadium project.
Mike Marlow: There is a lot of uncompleted finished work within the club area. This finished work includes donor recognition.

Jerry (Boise): What is WSU's policy towards social media and athletes? Do you track their twitter and facebook posts?
Mike Marlow: Jerry, we are keenly aware of the benefits as well as the pitfalls of social media. Our student-athletes are educated in a variety of ways on appropriate use of this resource. Our coaches and administration have invested time as well as expense to bring in guest speakers, as well as supply our student-athletes with formal documentation on social media expectations.

Shane (Pullman): The Cougar Prowl needs a lot of work. Can we get some SERIOUS effort put in to get it going? Marketing hype during games. Band and dance performances.
Mike Marlow: Shane, thank you for taking the time to recognize this. We are attempting to establish the Prowl as a gameday tradition. Our marketing staff will focus on ways to enhance the Prowl. Please help us spread the word.

John (Pullman): Any improvements for student entry into football games? Saturday was unorganized and had potential to be dangerous as people were pushing through.
Mike Marlow: John, students, especially at Washington State, are critical in establishing homefield advantage and a great gameday environment. The 9,077 students that showed up on Saturday were awesome. We are hopeful that cooler weather will keep them in their seats for the entire game. Our operations staff has acknowledged the bottleneck on Saturday and will be working with ushers to improve this for future games.

Paul (Tacoma): What's your choice for the Homecoming uniforms?
Mike Marlow: Paul, I'm partial to all crimson and intend to cast several dozen votes.

Spokane: Hi Mike. Who is responsible for picking the music or what passes for music coming out of the sound system at Martin Stadium? What age group are you trying to reach? I know for a fact most people over 30 hate it and I'm not so sure the students are all that excited about it. Also, Bill said on his radio show yesterday he would see if the volume could be turned down a bit.
Mike Marlow: We agree, our music selection needs to improve. Pregame music selection is targeted, and is selected by our football program, for our student-athletes on the field. This is common in most venues that I am aware of. During the game, we will attempt to find music that keeps as many fans as possible engaged in the game. The sound system had several technical problems on Saturday. For example, pre-recorded segments were coming off hot as compared to live audio. Most of which were the result of living in a new house. We are committed to correcting these issues for our next game.

Craig (Spokane): Mike, WSU athletic department is doing such a great job putting WSU athletics back as a major presence in Spokane, we really appreciate it. Great Job. It's great to be a coug in Spokane.
Mike Marlow: Craig, thank you for the comments. Spokane has been an often communicated priority of Bill's since he arrived. Our staff has done a nice job of advancing his vision for Spokane. We have got to be Spokane's hometown athletic program in order to become a sustainable Pac-12 athletic program.

Evan (Colville, WA): With the increases in the donation levels for parking at WSU home games, I'm curious how we compare now to Oregon and Washington. I assume you have a frame of reference from your time in Eugene?
Mike Marlow: Evan, we continue to be modest in our pricing as it relates to parking benefits. I believe gamedy parking at Oregon is now $4,000 per year for a car. Our park-and-ride concept is designed for those fans that may be looking for a more economical option. We acknowledge the need to remain as fan-friendly as possible in terms of our pricing structure.

Nicole (Bellevue): I noticed Coug Guys & Gals seemed to be everywhere! Should we expect to see them more during the season and maybe outside of football gamedays?
Mike Marlow: Nicole, Coug Guys & Gals are an important part of our athletic department family. They assist in a variety of ways, from marketing and fundraising to customer service. It is a vibrant group of young people. You can expect to continue seeing them do great things for Cougar Athletics all year.

Brian (Pullman): I noticed some changes going on in Bohler Gym. When can we see an update to the lobby area?
Mike Marlow: Brian, the lobby area remains a part of the master plan. Timing is not finalized as this point in time.

Steve (Selah): Mike, it's great to see the increase in Cougar Athletic Fund membership. Is Bill Moos pleased to see where we are at?
Mike Marlow: Steve, Bill is pleased that over 2,000 people have chosen to become first-time members of the Cougar Athletic Fund bringing our total to over 6,000 members. He is not satisfied. For Washington State Athletics to compete on the field, our constituents must also be competitive with their peers (donors) from around the conference. We need roughly 700 more members to pass Oregon State. Thank you for your support and please consider helping us find new members to the Cougar Athletic Fund. Those interested in becoming a member can call 1-877-IMA-COUG or go to cougarathleticfund.com.

Mary: Class job for doing a moment of silence for Kathi Goertzen. A great Coug!
Mike Marlow: Mary, thank you. Recognizing Kathi was a very important priority for both President Floyd and our athletic director. We are touched that it was equally as important for many people in the stands.
Moderator: Okay that's all the time we have. Mike, thank you for joining us.
Mike Marlow: Thank you for having me. It was great to feel the heartbeat of Martin Stadium on Saturday. I look forward to a long string of sell-outs with the help of Cougars everywhere. I encourage all Cougars to vote for the Homecoming uniform. As far as we are aware this is something unique in our industry and an opportunity for our fans to be engaged in Homecoming. Go Cougs!
Moderator: Thank you to everyone for participating. Please join us for our next chat at WSUCougars.com. Go Cougs!
