Matt Potter: Thank you for the opportunity to be here. It is an exciting time with the start of a new year! |
| Moderator: Okay, let's talk Cougar Soccer. |
| Reggie (Tacoma): Hi Coach,
What addition will Katie Schoene bring to the program? She seems like a great addition to Cougar Soccer. |
Matt Potter: Reggie, Katie is a fantastic addition to our program. She brings a student-athlete's experience along with a wealth of soccer knowledge. She will be a great resource for our student-athletes, both current and future. Katie compliments our current staff and we are delighted she accepted our offer to join our Cougar Soccer family. |
| Linda (Yakima): What did you think of the World Cup and will you talk to your players about the U.S. experiences in the Final? |
Matt Potter: Linda, first and foremost the World Cup is a great example of how the sport of women's soccer has grown. Our team followed the event throughout and felt the highs and lows both as women's soccer fans and fans of the U.S. team. We will take the lessons from the event in its entirety and will look to apply those lessons at various points in the season. |
| Reggie (Tacoma): Micaela Castain was a huge scoring contributor last year as only a freshmen. Do you see her continuing to build off her successful freshmen campaign? |
Matt Potter: Micaela had a wonderful 2010 season and has not looked back since, highlighted by her recent invitation to the U.S. Under 20 National Camp. Her work ethic and attitude make her an integral part of the team as we look forward to the 2011 season. Micaela's challenge will be that everyone will now know who she is; however, I am confident that based on her hard work and ability she will shine and contribute to the success of the team. |
| Sue (Palouse): What is the status of getting lights for the field? What other improvements would you like to see in the future? |
Matt Potter: Sue, great question! We have had a facilities project master plan since 2007 and continue to look to improvements which will help us compete at the elite level that the Pac-12 demands. We have a great location, great support, and a talented team so we have a great foundation in place. We now want to capture that enthusiasm and follow the roadmap that our Director of Athletics Bill Moos has put in place. The project includes lights, field renovation, clubhouse/locker and meeting rooms, and a new scoreboard. As with any project at this time, we understand the sensitivity and timing issues; however, it never hurts to dream, set a plan, and see it come to life. |
| Stephanie (Spokane): Hi Coach. What will be key for the team to return to the NCAA postseason? |
Matt Potter: Stephanie, the simple answer is wins! LOL! The team is working hard to create a culture that invests and brings out the best in each other. We have a challenging schedule whereby, if we are consistent in our play, stay healthy, and have a little bit of luck we are capable of fulfilling our season goals. We are planning, as we do every year, to be a postseason team that represents Washington State proudly. |
| Moderator: Okay, that's all the time we have. Matt, thank you once again for joining us. |
Matt Potter: Thank you once again for all the support. We look forward to seeing you at home or on the road. Go Cougs! |
