Chat with Washington State Director of Athletics Bill Moos on Friday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m. PT.
| Moderator: Good morning Cougars and welcome to today's chat with WSU Director of Athletics Bill Moos. Before we begin, you will notice links at the top of this page for 2012 football season tickets, the Cougar Athletic Fund, the fundraising arm of the WSU Athletic Department, and information on Spokane Week, which begins Monday, April 16, and culminates with the Crimson and Gray Game at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane, Saturday, April 21. Bill, thank you for joining us today. |
Bill Moos: As the conclusion of the academic year draws to an end we can all take pride in that Cougar Athletics is heading in the right direction and I am excited to talk about some of our accomplishments and our continued vision for the future. |
| Moderator: Okay, let's begin. |
| Bruce (Virginia Beach): Bill, it is evident that many of our programs are on the upswing...mens and womens basketball...womens tennis...more enthusiastic football fan base. Question is...how do we capitalize on that momentum now, and not repeat what did not happen in the aftermath of the back-to-back-to-back 10 win seasons? Go Cougs! |
Bill Moos: Bruce, it is important that the momentum continues and that we continue to invest in all aspects of the program. Once we reach the heights that we all desire we need to re-invest in that success in order to sustain it. Now more than ever, we need all Cougars to be involved. |
| Layne, Seattle: Bill, are there any plans to make further enhancements to Beasley Coliseum beyond the addition of the center, and side scoreboards? Thanks |
Bill Moos: Layne, as of late February, Beasley Coliseum has been totally rebranded. That, along with the center hung scoreboard, has improved our basketball venue remarkably. We now can concentrate on such areas as restrooms, locker rooms, and various meeting rooms. In the end, it will be a quality and impressive facility. |
| Kevin (Bremerton): Mr. Moos, the stadium renovation is looking FANTASTIC! What is the status of club seat sales? Also, is the west end zone renovation still in the works and when do you think that might break ground?
I look forwards to seeing the Cougs play for next weekend’s scrimmage in Spokane. Keep up the great work; I haven’t been this excited for Cougar football in a long time! |
Bill Moos: Kevin, we have sold out the Indoor Club seats and approximately 60 percent of the Outdoor Club seats, with a steady stream of new commitments coming in weekly. For more information on club seats, please contact the Cougar Athletic Fund office at 1-877-IMA-COUG or athletics.CAF@wsu.edu. In addition, all 44 loge boxes and all 21 suites have been sold. As the premium seating project continues the design team is working on final drafts of the football operations building. We hope to have cost estimates and funding models in place shortly and plan to present them to the Board of Regents this summer. Looking forward to seeing you in Spokane next week! |
| Jack (Spokane): The football project is looking great! Keep it up! Are there ways to improve the track facilities as well? I have not seen much news about them yet. |
Bill Moos: Jack, we have a $1.5 million track renovation project due to begin the first week of June. It will include a total resurfacing of the track and a reconfiguration of the infield, along with other improvements. We are set to host the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships in the spring of 2014. |
| Kyle Rancourt: Bill, I gotta know, what's your take on the "battle to the death" of the PAC12 mascots...? Who's gonna win, and why? |
Bill Moos: Kyle, Butch reigns! |
| Terry (Coeur d Alene): The stadium project looks great. The rest of the stadium is looking its age now. Will they be doing anything to the lower bowl concreate area or putting in advertising signage on the new suite area this year? What are the plans to make the stadium look better this year? With all of the rebranding going on in the AD will you update the website for recruits on the facilities page? |
Bill Moos: Terry, improvements to Martin Stadium will be an ongoing process. Hopefully, the next step will be the football operations building in the west end zone. My vision is to have a plan in place for expansion in the east end zone down the road. I do feel it is important that the old and new aspects of Martin Stadium blend well and believe that will be the case. Our facilities page is continuously being updated to reflect our latest improvements. You can view the page HERE. |
| Sean (Dublin): Bill, are there any plans in the works to improve travel to Pullman and hotel options in town? Even getting a hotel room is nearly impossible. |
Bill Moos: Sean, it is my understanding that a new hotel property is scheduled to start construction this year. That will help accommodate our growing fan base. We are, however, exploring a variety of options for Cougar fans that include weekend packages in Spokane with bus transportation to Pullman. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months. |
| Seattle: Bill ~ just wanted to say that I'm a former Red Raider and followed Coach Leach throughout his tenure there. I'm excited and thrilled that he is a Coug now and will be rooting for you and the Cougs all season long! |
Bill Moos: Coach Leach looks great in Crimson and Gray and we are thrilled that he is a Cougar. We welcome any and all Texas Tech folks to become part of the Cougar Family. Hope to see you this fall. |
| Matt-Seattle: W/ Martin stadiums face lift. Dont you think its about time to ditch the UW grad name? Are there efforts for corporate sponsorship? Schweitzer Stadium? |
Bill Moos: Matt, I rule out no opportunities. |
| Evan (Pullman): With an Oregon school as opponent for the Seattle game every year, will fans not get to see UO or OSU in Martin Stadium for the foreseeable future? |
Bill Moos: Evan, correct. I won't, however, rule out the possibility of other conference opponents once the concept of The Seattle Game has established itself. |
| Darnell (Oakland): Will most of the men's basketball games be available to watch on tv or online in California moving forward? |
Bill Moos: Darnell, all men's basketball games are slated for television for the next 12 years as a result of our contract with ESPN, FOX and the newly established Pac-12 Network. |
| Moderator: Okay, that's all the time we have. Thank you Bill for joining us and to all for your questions. |
Bill Moos: As always, it's enjoyable for me to discuss Cougar Athletics with our fans. Thank you for your questions and your interest in our program. I am looking forward to the upcoming week in Spokane and the opportunity to share my vision with Cougar fans in the greater Spokane area. I'm forecasting a record crowd for the Crimson and Gray game. Hope you'll be there. Go Cougs! |
