Let's get started with the chat. Donnie, thank you for joining us today. |
| Don--Everett: Coach--have a great season. At the present time who are your 3, 4, and 5 hitters in your lineup. |
Donnie Marbut: Don, thank you for the well wishes. I would say Ard, Jones, Monda. |
| Dave--Marysville: Good luck Coach Marbut this season. Which freshmen are in line to play as the season starts? |
Donnie Marbut: Dave, I think quite a few freshmen will get an opportunity throughout the season. I see a freshman Tanner Chileborad starting in the weekend rotation. |
| Bill-Tacoma: Any injuries that will keep a player out to start the season. |
Donnie Marbut: Bill, the only player out to start the season is Avery Kain. |
| steve-sumner: coach--Good luck this season--hope to join you in a regional. Which pichers are in the mix for starting during the week. In order to keep the record moving in the right direction winning those weekday games can really help. |
Donnie Marbut: Steve, I hope the same! The midweek games are important and we haven't figured out yet who will be pitching those games. If we played this Tuesday, Scott Simons would get the start. |
| Rick-Seattle: Coach, last year the defense struggled. How does this years team look in the field. |
Donnie Marbut: Rick, I agree with you as well! I see this year's team being a much stronger defensive unit and on the bright side we haven't made an error yet! |
| Trent Dilfer (Vancouver): Coach Marbut I'm looking forward to big year from the Cougs! Who are you expecting to see as main guys from the bullpen this year? |
Donnie Marbut: Trent, it's always great to hear from you! I think Ochoa, Jackson, Camus, and Drobnick are four experienced guys who will get the bulk of the innings out of the bullpen. |
| Jerry (Montesano): With the returning starters and the great recruiting it looks like our offense and defense should be solid this year. Where do you feel our pitching staff strengths (and weaknesses) are? |
Donnie Marbut: Jerry, one of our biggest strengths is our pitching coach Greg Swenson. Greg has the great ability to make a staff and a player believe in themselves and the plan. Also, a strength is the ability of our players. They are pretty talented. They just haven't had the opportunity to showcase that talent yet. So that's where the weakness shows up, in the inexperience that we have. |
| Spokane: Looks like your line up is pretty potent and will score some runs. How do you see the pitching stacking up. Will it be by committee? |
Donnie Marbut: I think the pitching is going to be solid and I think throughout the year they will make great strides and be a very solid staff by June 1. |
| Jason: How do you feel about the turf surface at BB Field? |
Donnie Marbut: Jason, we love the Fieldturf surface at Bailey-Brayton Field. We enjoy playing in front of the Cougar fans. |
| Tumwater: Coach Marbut, Happy Valentine's Day to you and your family! |
Donnie Marbut: Tumwater, thank you! Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours. |
| Chris (Portland): Hey Coach, I know there is a lot of depth in the outfield, but right now are there a firm 3 starters or will it be more of a revolving door out there? |
Donnie Marbut: Chris, I think we have four starters right now in the outfield with Monda, Blackham, Johnson, and Jones. |
| Clay King: Any home-run hitters in the lineup? Btw, what are the distances at Bailey-Brayton Field? |
Donnie Marbut: Clay, Taylor Ard led the conference in home runs last year and he's back so there's one. Derek Jones is on pace to be the career home run leader at WSU so at least we have two. The distances are 330 down the lines and 400 in dead center. |
| Moderator: Okay, that's all the questions we have. Donnie, thank you for joining us today. |
Donnie Marbut: Thank you all for the questions and we'll see you at Bailey-Brayton this spring. Go Cougs! |
