Meet the Coaches
Rick Sloan
Camp Director
Coach Rick Sloan is the Head Men's & Woman's Track & Field Coach at Washington State University. All American at UCLA and member of the 1968 Olympic team in the decathlon before coming to WSU. Personal coach of Olympic Decathlon Gold Medallist and three time world champion Dan O'Brien.

Mark Macdonald
Hurdles Coach
Mark Macdonald was an outstanding Cougar track and field student-athlete who returned to coach at his alma mater where he works primarily with the hurdles and events. Macdonald also serves as the recruiting coordinator for the Washington State University track and field program.

Debra Farwell
Throws Coach
Debra Farwell joined the Cougar coaching staff in the fall of 1995 after a successful stint at Penn State University. A 1983 Washington State University graduate, Farwell coaches the men and women throwers at WSU.

Pete Julian
Distance Coach
Pete Julian is head cross country coach and directs the distance program at Washington State. Julian is in his third season at WSU.

Matt McGee
Jumps Coach
Matt McGee has been a fulltime assistant since 2005. He is responsible for coaching the jumping events. McGee graduated from Washington State in 2003, and excelled in the Javelin with a PR of 216 feet 3 inches.

Ellannee Richardson
Sprints Coach
Ellannee Richardson joins the Cougar staff after concluding a stellar career at WSU. Ellannee earned 5 All-American certificates in the Heptathlon and relays during her 5 years in Pullman. In 2002 Ellannee was ranked 3rd in the USA in the heptathlon. She currently coaches the sprint and relay events on the Cougar staff.


Due to construction of our new outdoor track & field facility, this year's Cougar Track & Field Camp will primarily be in the climate controlled Indoor Practice Facility. Throwing events will be conducted in the football stadium and outdoor football practice fields.

Track Camp
July 8-13, 2012
Ages 12-18

Purpose: To become acquainted with the latest training and techniques in Track & Field and Cross Country. Campers will learn the importance of weight training, flexibility, nutrition, and technique as well as experience a variety of training methods. Our staff prides itself on the PERSONALIZED instruction given to each camper regardless of skill level.

Cost: Tuition fee of $450.

Location: The camp will be held on the beautiful Washington State University campus to take advantage of the outstanding track and field facility, fully equipped weight room, and other existing facilities. A wide variety of dirt running trails as well as the wonderful rural roads of the rolling Palouse will be utilized by the distance runners in their training.

Pick Up Service: We will furnish transportation to and from headquarters to anyone arriving or leaving PULLMAN by bus or airplane. You must notify us in writing one week in advance that you want us to meet you upon arrival and don't forget to state your name, location, time of arrival, and your home phone number. Transportation to and from Spokane International Airport can be arranged through Wheatland Express (509) 334-2200.

Eligibility: All participants must be between the ages of 12-18 years old.

Cost: The tuition fee of $450 can be paid by using a credit card during on-line registration. Mail in applications can be downloaded from our website, and a tuition fee of $450 must accompany the applications. Camp registration will close on July 3, 2012. All registration forms must be postmarked by July 3, 2012.

Cancellations: Your full tuition, less a $100 administration fee, will be refunded if you cancel your enrollment. Should the camper leave during the week for medical reasons, the refund will be prorated. No refunds will be made to campers who voluntarily leave camp during the week.

Accommodations: All campers will be housed two to a room in one of WSU's modern dormitories. Boys and girls will be separated and under the supervision of the staff members living on the floor. If you have a roommate preference, note this on your enrollment application as roommate assignments will be made PRIOR to the start of camp.

Tuition: Your tuition covers five nights lodging (Sunday-Thursday) and meals beginning with Sunday dinner and concluding with breakfast on Friday. For those campers arriving on Saturday, July 7, or who wish to remain on campus Friday night, July 13, arrangements may be made to stay in a dormitory on campus. Camp Registration: Camp registration will take place in the camp dormitory (TBD) where the camp will be housed between 3:00 and 4:30 pm on the first day of camp. The camp concludes the following Friday with the closing ceremonies scheduled from 9:30-11:00 am in Bohler Gym Addition 280. Parents and friends are welcome to attend Fridays activities. Campers must be out of their rooms by 3:00 pm.

Bank: A camp bank will be available for campers to check money and valuables for safekeeping. There will be daily banking hours throughout the week.

Lectures: Outstanding coaches and athletes will lecture on topics such as nutrition, flexibility, weight training, biomechanics, care and prevention of injuries, all aspects of training, as well as techniques specific to each event.

Insurance and Medical Care: Campers must provide their own medical insurance. A professional trainer will be on duty at all times and team doctors will be on call. Because of the rigorous daily schedule, each camper should come to camp in top physical condition. Every conceivable effort is made to protect the camper's health and safety through the training of our staff, constant inspection of equipment and instruction of campers. However the camp staff assumes no responsibility for accidents or illness.

Pre Existing Medical Issues: Any athlete suffering from an injury, illness, surgery or other medical condition, occurring within the past year, that necessitated their removal from practice &/or competition MUST provide a written release, specific to the injury & summer camp participation, from their physician. Failure to provide a written release will result in a delay of participation until such a release can be obtained. If no release is obtained summer camp participation will be denied.

Discipline: Any serious violation of regulations, such as willful damage to the school's property, or other behavior deemed detrimental to the group, will result in immediate dismissal. There will be no refund of tuition should you be dismissed from camp.

Extras: Swimming, rec night, video analysis, movie night, daily motivational films, and the very popular camp dance are all part of your week's program.
