By Gurveen Clair (Diary Day 14)

Rome is a beautiful city! The buildings were both new and old. There were ruins in the middle of the city, statues and sculptures all over the place, so many people walking the streets. We drove past the Coliseum which we may get to see on our next outing, but even from an outside view, you could see the history; its worn down walls. We toured an area called the Vatican. It is walled off from the rest of Rome and contains a very famous church, St. Peters Church. The inside was absolutely gorgeous, designs on the roof and pillars, famous art pieces inside. The one rule to get into the church was you had to cover up. Your shirt must have sleeves and pants or shorts have to be at least knee length. They had a couple of guards standing around wearing the old fashioned suits which was interesting. After our tour we split up to wander the streets and do some shopping. The girls I was with wanted to have some real Italian gelatos so we went on a search. We found this tiny little cafe, and the gelato was delicious! I don't know what flavor I had because I couldn't read Italian. I just looked at it and if the presentation looked good through the glass, I tried it. We walked the streets some more, popping into shops here and there. This was a bit of a tourist location so a lot of things were overpriced, so really, not much shopping took place. We head out to town again, Thursday.

More from Gurveen after the jump.

Thursday we have a game against another local team call Lazio. So practices have started to get more tactical as the game approaches, but still at a high tempo. The weather has still been amazing, no rain yet. The sun has shown everyday so far, but it has got a little windy here and there. I've been here for two weeks now and our meals haven't changed a bit; pasta and rice with meat every meal every day. It's still well cooked and tastes amazing, but I wouldn't mind some variety. A couple of the nights here have been interesting. A Bache Ball tournament is going on somewhere around the hotel and teams and players are staying here so out dinner room is getting a little crowded. Last night we lined up shampoo bottles in the hallway and played some hallway bowling of our own. We have to keep coming up with things to keep ourselves entertained since the internet cuts out constantly!

Ciao
