Soccer WSU Invitational Preview

A visit from Florida State, thoughts from Cougar Soccer Head Coach Matt Potter and videos on YouTube highlight this week's soccer blog.

Fresh off back-to-back NCAA postseason appearances, Washington State is No. 21 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason poll. The Cougars open their season tomorrow (Aug. 20) at 3 p.m. against Florida State in the inaugural WSU Invitational. The Seminoles are ranked sixth by the NSCAA. Gonzaga and Utah will open the tournament at noon, tomorrow.

The invitational concludes, Sunday with Florida State and Gonzaga playing at 11 a.m. and Utah meeting Washington State at 1:30 p.m.

"We love to have our tournament be an annual event and have the caliber teams we have coming in this year," WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said.

 

This year's Cougar squad features 15 returnees and 13 newcomers.

 

"Anytime you lose a group and gain a group, you have to reevaluate," Potter said. "We have asked our freshmen to immerse themselves in our program and our returnees have done a great job of making the freshmen feel a part of what we are already doing. Our values have not changed, we want to be an elite team."
