I have a few videos and a photo gallery for you to check out, but first, a few notes after the jump:
Yes, the defense looked to get the better of today's scrimmage. But what won't come through in any of tomorrow's stories are some of the hits.
Freshman safety Deone Bucannon absolutely laid a lick on someone, as did redshirt sophomore safety LeAndre Daniels. If you want to know the difference between scrimmaging in practice and a live, orchestrated scrimmage, you need not look any further than those two plays. My bell was wrung, and I was standing 30 yards away.
I imagine you will hear about a couple plays made by freshman linebacker C.J. Mizell, but we will go over them here anyway. The kid can flat out fly. Running backs Leon Brooks and Rickey Galvin are fast, really fast, and Mizell chased both of them down for minimal gains - from the other side of the field. He came out of absolutely nowhere to make both plays. The looks on everyone's faces standing around me were the same, and without saying anything, it was obvious they were thinking, "Are you kidding me?"
The Cougar defense hauled in two picks, but it should have been three. Junior linebacker Mike Ledgerwood had one slip out of his hands on the sidelines. Let me correct myself - it could have been four. Daniels picked one off, but it didn't count because someone was offsides.
A photo gallery from the scrimmage is below:
Now, let's get to the videos...

You'll notice that there are none with defensive players. I have no idea how it happened, but it did, so I apologize.
The Cougars are back on the field tomorrow for the second two-a-day of Fall Camp. The morning session starts at 8:30 a.m., and the afternoon session will begin at 3:30 p.m.
