FOOTBALL: Practice No. 16 Recap...

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Before we get to today's recap, I wanted to let everyone know that the Cougars will be scrimmaging tomorrow in Martin Stadium at 8:30 a.m. Hope to see you all there.

Information from today's practice after the jump:

Player of the day? Nolan Washington, who shined the brightest in a great performance from the Cougar Defense. The redshirt freshman cornerback had three pass deflections, the third of which was the most impressive. The coaches declared it fourth and goal from the 10-yard line for the "win," and Washington was all over the pass.

Linebackers Mike Ledgerwood and Myron Beck also had pass deflections during scrimmage today, and redshirt senior defensive end Kevin Kooyman had a couple sacks, earning an interview with the Spokesman's Vince Grippi.

The defense got redshirt sophomore LeAndre Daniels back today. He wore a yellow jersey, but was able to practice a bit after suffering from a stiff neck for the last couple days.

I said yesterday that junior wide receiver Jared Karstetter is looking completely healthy, and he had another good showing today. He went over the top of a defender to grab a Jeff Tuel pass and outran the coverage for a long touchdown.

Joe Kaleta, a 6-foot-8 offensive tackle from Utica, N.Y., joined the Cougar Family this week. Coach Wulff talked about him after practice today:

I'll be back tomorrow with a recap from the scrimmage. Until then...
