Running with the twos, sophomore running back Carl Winston started the fireworks, catching a pass and simply outrunning everyone on his way to a touchdown.
Later in another scrimmage session, the first-team offense march 50-plus yards to inside the 10-yard line, but with time running short in the drill, the coaching staff sent the twos in to give them a chance at some reps.
Toward the end of practice, the first units lined up against each other for a one-minute drill. Sophomore quarterback Jeff Tuel marched the offense right down the field, hitting redshirt senior wide receiver Jeffrey Solomon for a touchdown with two seconds left on the clock, capping a 60-yard drive.
Redshirt senior tight end Aaron Gehring returned to practice today and found himself wide open for a big gain during one of the scrimmage sessions.
At the end of practice, the offense lined up for a victory kneel at the goal line.
After this morning's one-handed interception, freshman safety Deone Bucannon might have one-upped himself in the afternoon session. He and one of the wide receivers got to the ball at what seemed to be at the exact same time, but Bucannon came away with the pass. Milliseconds later he was hit so hard his mouth piece came out, but he kept his feet and started the return before running out of bounds.
No interview with Coach Wulff today, as he had to head up to Coeur d'Alene for the Cougar Sports Banquet and Auction.
Only one practice tomorrow. The Cougars will hit the field at 2 p.m.
