Twenty-Seven Cougars Earn Pac-12 Rowing All-Academic

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Twenty-seven members of the Washington State University women's rowing team earned Pac-12 All-Academic accolades, commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday.

Six Cougars were named to the first team, including seniors Elise Jones (3.93 grade point average, civil engineering) and Kerry Hassall (3.94 GPA, sport management), juniors Chloe Payne (3.99 GPA, hospitality business management) and Erin Schuster (3.95 GPA, construction management) and sophomores Morgan Cathrea (3.80 GPA, undeclared) and Nicole Hare (3.80, undeclared).

Seven other WSU rowers earned second team accolades, seniors Kendall Boliba (3.35, sport management), Gina Head (3.35 GPA, general studies basic medical science) and Ella Odland (3.34 GPA, sport management), redshirt sophomore Kayla Wakulich (3.54 GPA, environmental science) and sophomores Ieva Adomaviciute (3.54 GPA, undeclared), Katrina Tarrant (3.68 GPA, undeclared) and Jordan Watson (3.64 GPA, sport science).

Rounding out the Cougar honorees on the honorable mention squad were seniors Carly Johnson, Katelyn Maley, Alyssa Rumman, Emily Starkel, and Mallory Wordell, juniors Mickey Aylard, Noel Christiansen, Carter Marks, Megan McDonald, Alex Waddell and Sarah Wu and sophomores Rebecca Burns, Kim Coon and Sarah Steger.

Jones is receiving first team accolades for the third-straight year, while Head is receiving honors for the third-straight year and second team accolades for the first time after appearing on the first team in 2012 and honorable mention in 2013. Odland and Boliba are receiving second team honors for the first time, while Odland is receiving honors for the third-straight year (honorable mention each of the last season) and Boliba is receiving for the second-straight year after being named honorable mention last season. Johnson, Rumann and Starkel are receiving honorable mention selections for the third-straight season, while McDonald, Waddell and Wu are receiving honorable mention accolades for the second-straight year.

To be eligible for selection to the Pac-12 academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average, compete in a minimum of 50 percent of competitions, and be in at least her second academic year at the institution.
